Early this year, when the weather was at its coldest, I went away for 4 weeks, leaving the car in it’s normal place outside. No surprise then to come back and find that the battery hadn’t enough power to turn over the 5.5 v8 engine. Nice Engineer came out, jump started the car and declared the battery to be in good condition but, like me, didn’t want to play in the cold.

In expectation of repeating the trip away in 2020, what do members recommend - a solar powered trickle charger or large battery pack to jump start?

I have been using a CTEK MXS 10 with a permanent connectors fitted to the battery. Does the job perfectly. Just a personal choice on the 10. a 7 and 5 is available. as well as other makes.

I would look for reviews of solar powered trickle chargers, as I seem to recall quite a few posts on problems occurring after jump-starting Mercs. I use a CTEK throughout the winter, but I can leave each of my cars connected, not so easy if parked on the street etc.
