Very nice colour combination! Did you purchase it from MB on Slyfield?

Yes, it came from Slyfield. A one owner car originally supplied by MB Brighton...

Have to say, the guys at MB Guildford are really top notch... great service and after sales service too

Well the new S Class is here.. 2016 350d.. Never had any interior other than black before so may be a challenge!!

Car has Burmeister, Distronic, Wood steering wheel, exec rear package, pano roof, TV, massage seats and I've already stripped out the console and comand and fitted aftermarket car play... looks factory too!

Bought from a main dealer in Guildford so came with 1 years warranty, they even stargarded it too!

Haggled and got a reduced price and then as part of the PDI, they found it needed new tyres all round (20") new disks and pads all round and new magic wipers... and they threw all that in too! -

** UPDATE Check out my thread in wheels and tyres forum why you should never put 20" alloys on an S Class :) **

Things I don't like... no push button to close the boot (Every one of my previous 6 S Class's have had that as standard) No shopping bag hooks in the boot and no umbrella holder under the boot lid... so I've taken those out of my written off W221 and fitted them... Other than that, I have driven all of 14 miles in it (I still have the Audi A8 courtesy car for the next two weeks so I'm putting mileage on that.

Since I have bought the car, I have fitted an aftermarket CarPlay box (works brilliantly) and fitted the retractable towbar (Just needs coding). I also fitted the fridge... had one in my W221, completely useless unless you are doing very long journeys, but a good talking point :)

She is gorgeous !!!
Would you care to help me gathering parts for Tow Bar,
So far I've collected:

A2216101225 - Reinforcement right
A2216101125 - Reinforcement left
A2139005910 - Control unit basic functions trailer hitch
A2223100000 - Tow bar

I need details for a switch, harness, and boot bottom shield.

Any help is deeply appreciated as I took me a week to find those.

Hi Marek

You have the hardest to get parts already... the left and right reinforcement bars... when I checked with Mercedes, they were no longer available, but luckily, they were the same as the ones that were on my W221 that had been written off!!

The control module is car specific. The one you have is the same as mine for a 2016 S350d so you'd need to check the one you have is suitable for your car.

I have attached a jpg showing all the other parts you'll need! If you have access to an EPC you should be able to check them off on there.

I've attached some pdf's that will help too

Hope this helps

Just something to be aware of, when fitting the switch in the boot, you need to replace the bracket behind the right hand side panelling that holds the rear seat module for a similar bracket that also has an additional piece that provides a secure mount for the towbar release switch.

What makes this difficult to obtain is that the two brackets have exactly the same part numbers... The photos below will show you what I mean, you need to make sure the dealer gets the correct bracket118727991_311982089884648_3589973475119940810_n.jpg118764590_407419683555465_5395878192944596882_n.jpg118764590_599696417391257_5317618604784696247_n.jpg118806117_3382278275128085_3333489798548134048_n.jpg118825083_889233271483703_960647538771758572_n.jpg118846649_646473276276425_484429607960819154_n.jpg118873238_639926046936357_8939560723304611191_n.jpg118960264_2666114887037867_2216248666202069884_n.jpg

OMG this is brilliant, I would never find it myself.

Thank you very much Barry !!!
My pleasure... I was lucky in so much as I found an ebay seller who was selling parts from a breaker W222 that had been fitted with a towbar, so the panelling (with the switch cut out) and the bracket with the extra bit added, was some of the bits he was selling

I'm so happy for you help. I can tell now I wouldn't be able to find them myself a specially the manuals. I'm in the process of finding the rest of the parts. Will keep you updated.

This is my car. I'll send all photos once is finished. Have you considered upgrading the brakes ?

I have some detailing done on it. Renewing paint plus ceramic coating, de chroming, no badges and emblem
What do you think ?

Great looking car! Not sure how I missed this thread before.

I have 19s on mine and love them (although I have Magic Body Control which is cheating)! However, I've driven an S450L without MBC and with 20"s and I didn't enjoy the ride quality at all.

Weirdly, similar to you, I found my S500L whilst in a hotel room browsing. I'd had enough of my previous CL500!

When you state you don't have a push button to close the boot, I can see in your photos you have the silver open boot switch in the door storage. Have you tried pressing and holding this down once the boot is open? It shuts my boot. You can even release and it stops where it got to.

Hi John...

My car is a little strange with some of the things it doesn't have compared to the previous S Classes I've had..... I've had 3 W220's, 2 LWB and 1 SWB (which I added the full rear electric functions from a damaged LWB, including massage, cool and heat!!) all 3 had electric boot close and keyless entry and start. My 2 W221's had the same, but the W222 doesn't have the option to close the boot electronically, nor does it have keyless entry, although it does have keyless start.

The switch in the drivers door only opens the boot, it doesn't close it, and the legend on the switch only has an open arrow, not an open/close arrow.

I do have the parts (Motor, module and switch) but I can't seem to find the wiring loom for sale anywhere as it looks to be build specific and not a retro fit available from Mercedes. (If anyone has retro-fitted boot closer on a W222 please let me know!!)

Other things missing on the W222 models compared to the early W221:

* Full boot carpeting (The W221 had the underside of the parcel shelf carpeted, the W222 doesn't
* Shopping bag hangers. W221 from 06 had two. From 09 they dropped this to one, W222 has none (mine does because I had some left in my spares box!!)
* Umbrella holder in the boot trim. W221 from 06 had one, from 09 they deleted it (I fitted it from my 06 to my 10 plate and now have it in my 222)
* Door card armrest storage. W2221 had it, W222 doesn't

Silly little things, cheap silly things that MB could have easily kept in, but chose not to for some reason.... Heaven knows what they've left out of the new S Class :)

Love the colour, but I have to admit to liking a good, chrome grille...

any interior photos?

I'll do the photos after when I wax seats. I do it usually 4 times a year its due now, but weather is not helping.
It's all in back Nappa leather, not human made.

My 222 has boot opening and closing by that switch. Also from the key knob. If this is going to help you tracking that wire harness I'll share my car's VIN number.
All I can say it was an option.

I would recommend to go for The Red Stuff Ceramic brake pads, it made a massive difference with less dusting on the wheels, job usually takes 25 minutes. Car now handles like and E class
They are cheaper them MB and don't squeal

If you could pm me your VIN, it would give me an idea where to look on the EPC

Thanks

Looked at my spec - I have 881 as well so maybe that is what is needed to shut it. Mine has the arrows pointing up and down. Never really looked that closely before.

What a strange thing to have as an option on an S Class...

Silly little things, cheap silly things that MB could have easily kept in, but chose not to for some reason.... Heaven knows what they've left out of the new S Class :)

I also found the huge storage compartment in my CL (effectively 221) under the top section (which was for mobiles) of the front centre armrest, to be very useful.

None whatsoever in the 222 which is annoying.

I can only assume they left these details out because of penny-pinching.
