W245 Brake Wheel noise

Afew week’s back I started hearing a squeal / grinding noise coming from the rear driver’s side wheel. I contacted the Merc dealer who advised it would more than likely be nothing and it will be checked out at the next service. A couple days later it started getting higher pitched. The car was then taken to Merc Epsom, who couldn’t hear it and ask me to bring it back when it was making the noise. I did so afew days later, where I was basically called a liar and told there was nothing wrong.

The noise got worse. I took a recording on my phone and dropped the car off at Merc Chelmsford. Where they replaced the brake pads for £70 and suggested the problem was solved. No luck. The car was then taken to a local mechanic who replaces the discs and shoes for a further £165. No change.

Any advice?

Take the car to MB and ask to take the Service guy out in the car, you driving. Don't just dump the car off and expect them to sort it...

On all 3 visits to MB I took the service guy for a drive, only on the last occasion did they agree there was a noise. Thats when they replaced the brake pads.

I have a noise on my car which I'm sure is coming from the FNS wheel/bearing. I only hear it at low speed and its more noticeable with a bit of right steering. Took three weeks for an appointment at MB and took the mechanic out on the only recent day that it was pi****g down. No noise. May have to get my own tools out.

Taking it back to the local mechanic, as the £165 got me nowhere and he needs to fix it for that.

Had the tyres replaced yesterday and the noise seems to have gone away. Strange how this couldnt have been picked up earlier.

I had a similar problem with a W245 a year or two since. Merc mechanics diagnosed a worn wheel bearing but our local excellent tyre specialists identified the noise immediately. It was a slight imperfection in one of the tyres - something to do with a hard spot in the tyre. Anyway, a replacement tyre cured the problem. The noise was much more noticeable over smooth road surfaces.
