B Class - W245
Hi all

I am new to the forum, so please excuse me if this has been discussed to death!. I have looked through the forum to see if I could find a solution before I posted!

I have a B Class (W245) 2011 and had an intermittent problem with the transmission in that it goes Limp virtually straight away after starting. The car has been regularly serviced by a Merc specialist and I have the error codes as well (see attached). I was recommended to try A1 Premier Transmission in Biggleswade and was told that they need to take the gearbox out before they can tell me what needs doing and the likely cost could be as high as £1800, plus VAT!

Before I go ahead (BTW, I am reluctant to spend that sort of money on the car!) any suggested from you guys would be very much appreciated as I don't know much about cars

Hello and welcome. have another go at attaching the photo of the codes and tell us the mileage and transmission service history on the car please. Can we assume it has a CVT transmission ?

oops.. sorry. Did not realise that there was a limit in the size of the file.. Now attached.🤞

Mileage is nearly 70k. Never had any previous problems with the transmission and yes, it's CVT.

When was the gearbox fluid last changed? Should be every 40k miles or sooner. I did 125k miles in my old B180 with no problems, but the fluid was changed max 40k miles. Maybe worth just doing that before any major expence.

Thanks for the advice. Not too sure when the oil was changed, but will check with my garage.

The RPM signal is missing, and this could be a break in the wire inside the transmission ECU (a common problem) and ECUtesting.com can repair these type of faults with a lifetime warranty for the W169 at a cost circa £250.

Well good advice as always, these CVT boxes need the ATF changing more often, and as Wong suggested ECU can repair the electrics on the box,if it was my car I would go with ECU testing.

The ATF needs to be drained to get to the transmission ECU for repairs. Best to refill with new ATF, filter and rubber gasket upon refit of the ECU.

I would recommend getting new AFT from Mercedes as it is very reasonably priced and something that wouldn't be changed for several years/mileage.
