Hi, another of my 'what would you do posts'. Though it does mean that I appreciate your views. :)

Mrs Saff has a 2014 246 B class which we bought at 3 years old with 19K on the clock and full MB history.

Since then we've had it serviced by MB specialists including timing belt change and Trans oil change with the electronic service record updated. The only exception to this is last year when I did a basic A service (Oil and Filter) and used genuine MB parts. Obviously there is now a gap in the S/H.

The car is now 8 years old has done 41K and is definitely a long-term 'keeper'. Mrs Saff is happy for me to continue servicing the car rather than pay through the nose. Obviously anything too tech will be passed to a specialist.

Given the age of the car and the intention to keep I think it makes economic sense.
Anyone agree/disagree?
Cheers, Steve.

Agree, but keep all the receipts for anything you bought for service/maintenance. Goes to show the work was done & not ignored

We have a 2012 B200, had it 4 years now and on 62,000 miles. I have serviced it myself since we bought it from Mercland with full MB history. I keep all receipts when it has any work done and change oil and filter every year, I did the oil, oil filter and air filter last week, cost of just over £30. At that age of car I don’t think you would get any more for it when it’s time to sell. Used this oil for the first time, fully synthetic at £18.80 inc delivery from EBay 1EB2C8B4-8CC4-4589-8518-07DFE8147E2F.png

Further to this, the 246 has now flagged up a B5 service being due.
The service supplement with the handbook pack gives a list of things to check and oil and filter(s) to change. The brake, tyre, leaks etc checks are all a matter of course for me anyway so I can do all of that. Given that the cambelt and trans oil were changed as per schedule I can't think of anything else I'd need to do. I'll get my specialist to change the brake fluid.
Is there anyone on here with access to the MB service schedule who can advise of what needs doing with any more precision or should I just go with the mentioned supplement. It's a 2014 W246 B180 cdi with the 1.5 engine with 41K miles.
Thanks for any advice.

We just bought a 2016 C200 with 31,000 miles with incomplete SH (not even MB), so given that we're going to keep it a long time I'm doing all the servicing on it myself, but will keep receipts together. I used to take my company car to MB for servicing and can't say I was that impressed with the work, so it's just about having a dealer's stamp, which of course is a bit pointless given the gap in our SH anyway. I won't have to argue with them not to wash it either (they can save their yard broom for someone else's car. ;) ).

The B5 service due message has now flagged up.
It consists of oil+filter, air, cabin and fuel filters. I've been quoted north of £400 for this at a specialist, or buy a kit of Bosch filters and Petronas 229.51 oil for about £130.
I'll be rolling my sleeves up then.
