Non Mercedes.
I have a 1998 W202 C200 auto saloon.
When I bought it, the seller supplied me with an aftermarket autobox dipstick, but it's too long, so I'm looking for a correct aftermarket dipstick for my model.
Is there such a beast? Links welcome.
Thanks in advance.

The gearbox dipstick is not meant to go all the way in like the one in the engine.
There is a "stop" at the measuring end that engages with a constriction in the tube to set the correct depth.
It is not meant to be in the tube permanently.

Thanks. I've got a cap on the dipstick tube. I'll try again. Probably me just being thick.

As said the dipstick is not meant to go all the way in, it is a 'tool' and not meant to be in permanently. Make sure the gearbox is at the correct temperature when reading the corresponding mark on the dipstick. The cap should have a black tab on from factory or a red one if it has ever been opened and replaced. These can be bought cheaply and snap off when removing.
