I’ve never heard of one of them , none on auto trader either .

It’s a relatively rare R129 based on the SL500 with the M119 engine :thumb:

Worked on by AMG and capacity up to 6.0 with increased power.

A few forum members have had these over the years.

Never too old to learn :)

From 1993-2002, there were 11,086 SL600s built with the alloy, DOHC, 48-valve V-12, which in 1999, was making 389 hp and 420-lb. ft. of torque. A 0-to-60 MPH dash took 5.8 seconds, and the 600's top speed was limited to 155 MPH. (so google tells me)

Yet from another source....I'm assuming the SL60 is the same as the SL600????

Powertrain specs
Engine typetwin-turbocharged and intercooled SOHC 36-valve V-12
Displacement5.5 l (336 ci)
Power500 ps (493 bhp / 368 kw)
Torque800 Nm (590 lb-ft)

There’s one on eBay but higher mileage than you’d want I think…

Thanks for the replies all. Yes far too high mileage wise sadly the ebay car. The search continues!

IMHO low mileage examples are likely to be with collectors now, so you'll need to be lucky to pick one up. These are old cars so even lightly used ones will be on high-ish miles - 155k miles (above) is only 5,500 a year.

SL60 is an over bored M119 5L motor. AMG and some others like Renntech made them. There are also a V12 SL73 which were bored out versions of the M120 V12

Trouble is a lower mileage one will come up for £10/20k more and everyone will chime in and say it’s too expensive! :)

Can’t win 😅

Looking at Car & Classic asking prices for good R129s seem to be on the way up, and have gone past equivalent R230 models.

Lovely if you can find one. I think the opportunity to grab a cheap one to lock away may have passed. A chap I know, and member here, recently sold an SL73 for a quite frankly eye-watering figure. I think the special R129’s are approaching their pique

That ebay one looks lovely, but it also looks like its idling at 1500 rpm and showing zero oil pressure.
Is it overpessimistic to be wary of older cars from seaside towns (Hove)?

And, this might be me, if you've got a £30k classic, why do you let the seat leather crack when a specialist can make them look "good," or "as new" for very little money?

And, no, I don't believe in renovation to better than new condition, but surely "nice" would be good?

But then there's the steering wheel, and the veneer, and the engine compartment.....

👍 Anything pre merger and post cooperation has had a bump and will continue heading up.

The US market has already gone bonkers and we tend to follow their trends.

I’ve put a bit of my SL73 profit into a W124 E36 coupe. They are criminally undervalued when you consider Hammers are now $1 million plus.
