I've recently changed the glow plugs and injectors.....Now starts lovely. There is the usual diesel knock at tickover.
It ceases once the car is above idle.
However another knocking/pinking noise starts between 1000 and 1500 rpm.
Just the sweet sound of a merc 6 cyclinder diesel above 1500rpm.
Is this normal or a fault.

Many Thanks

EMH

Try disconnecting the EGR valve and also meter the MAF voltage.

It's probably the new injectors or the serpentine belt damper bushes rattling.

Thanks Dieselman

Sounds like I'm already out of my depth

How do I disconnect the EGR valve.....and will this drive the ECU mental?

Also how do I test the MAF and what are considered normal readings.

Many Thanks
EMH

Disconnect the vacuum pipe that feeds the EGR valve. the ECU will engage limp home after about 5 minutes, but you will be able to test if the noise has subsided.

Meter the MAF at pin-5 WRT ground.
Expect ~2v at idle rising to ~4.8v at full revs and on boost.
