As the title says, looking for a low(ish) mileage car with FSH, doesnt necessarily need to be MB service but definately serviced by a Specialist. Id prefer a 5 speed (1996+ ... I think), goes without saying that it must be HPI and accident clear and in superb nick. Not too worried about the colour ... I even like white  . Looking to spend £20000 (maybe more if I fall in love). Anyone know, have or hear of one please email me. I've seen the 2 on AT both 4 speed 95's (they are my fall backs if I dont find a 5 speed).
Sorry to put this in General, but dont yet have rights in Classified???. Seems odd not to be able to post a Wanted ad??

Cheers Guys (& Gals)

I think you'll be lucky to find a series 3 with low miles in superb nick for less than £25k - the two on Auto Trader I wouldn't touch personally. I have seen another somewhere for £28k, but that sounds like it is a fair bit over your budget.

Ive seen that £28K one advertised ultra low miles but not full service history ... not something Id touch without FSH (digital mileage adjusters around everwhere :o ), especially at that price. Like I say Id go over £20K for the right one

What very wise words. At least there is less risk when having a full service history with ALL the necessary documentation.

It is possible to get a bargain, but generally the rule of thumb is you get what you pay for.

I am envious of your choice and wish you all the luck in getting a very nice car.

Regards,
John

5 owners is a reason not to buy it.

Why? When looking at a 911 recently, everyone I spoke to seemed unconcerned at the number of owners "as these tend to change hands regularly as they tend to be toys, not the main car". Not the case with the SL?

Not sure I would want a car that has been used as a toy by a lot of owners, rather than one that has been cared for by someone that values it enough to hold on to.

My C43 has had a few owner 5 I think So I could even be the 7th. FOr shure it will no doubt affect my resale value but then I didnt really have many estates to choose from and not seen many at all since. Wasnt one on the autotrader when I looked the other day.

If you want a specialist vehicle you may have to make a sacrifice. So long as its fully inspected with documented history why should number of owners cause concern when each one has more than likely loved it in their short time of ownership.

Just my 2p.

I also cant see any reasons not to by the red one. Other than I wouldnt buy a red car as the colour alsways seems to fade more than others.

On the other hand, people that can afford one of these as a toy tend to look after them properly and don't tend to spare any expense. Condition and history is #1 importance in my book when buying a car like this.

Maybe with a Porsche, but I don't agree when it comes to SLs, more often than not they're abused.

Which is why I put a ? at the end of my initial post. I am surprised that someone spending that kind of money on a car (any car) would abuse it. Just goes to show - caveat emptor.

I must confess I am with you on this, perhaps as the vehicle becomes more affordable then it will indeed start to get neglected.

The high end sports range sometimes gets purchased by exactly the folks that you are talikng about.

Surely service history is more important than amount of owners?

Seven owners full history

One owner no history

I would be more inclined to trust the pedigree of the former?

Bottom line however is you pays your money and take your chances.

John

I wouldn't buy a car without a FMBSH anyway, so more often I look to the number of owners. If it doesn't meet my criteria I won't buy it - even if that means not having one.
