When I was looking I originally went out with the intention of a CLS 500, at the time as always there was nothing around all silver or tired looking, by chance I came across a petrol 350 up in Oxford. Not my first choice coming from a Rev happy M3.
1 private owner from new basically ticked every option box colour combo was exactly what I was looking for plus a impeccable history. In fairness for such a heavy car it's really no slouch as you would know having owned a 55.
I suppose it all comes down to what your needs are, the 350 gives a nice linear wave of torque low down and feels more than adequate for my needs.
Although like you, I just missed out on a 388bhp model carnival red with well over 100k,in hindsight I'm glad I did!
Good luck with your search.
