hi all

was driving my car yesterday all day and was having a great time in it all of a sudden i stopped in some traffic for a couple of minutes as i was listening to the radio when my bas brake assist light flashed on the dash warning computer with one fault shown. So i pulled the car to the side to see what it was all about i switched the engine off and then jumped back in to my car expecting the warning light still to be on but as soon as i started the engine it was all fine no light on i went to the malfunctions on the trip computer but it was fine shown no faults i have had this problem once before approx 6 months ago but never since

now the car is fine no problems at all anyone any ideas as to what it could be or the fact that i should be worried as i assumed if there was anything serious to worry about the malfunction should still be stored in the computer or am i clutching at straws

thanks

This is quite common on most B.A.S cars. I have had this a few times and as you say next time you start it, the so called fault has gone.

Most people here seem to agree that its just a computer glitch just like you sometimes get on home PC's.

You are right though about any serious faults would be stored on the comp.

I reckon the brake switch or a sensor is on it's way out. I had a similar problem and it became more frequent until one day the light didn't go out at all. Had to drive with no BAS/ABS/ASR/cruise etc for a few weeks (luckily in summer) before it was fixed by the stealership during a normal service, it was the brake switch.

cheers for all the advice guys

but it has happened again so getting fed up i took the car to a mates he reckons that the swich located under the steering wheel on the right hand side is away to replace costing aprrox£15 from dealer and also he checked that the pads front and rear to see that they were due to bereplaced

when i asked him about why the fault did not stay on the computer he says that it is because it is a minor fault but the fault stores it self in the ecu by the way did i mention he works for mercedes benz

so getting all work done with a significant discount thank fxxk

anyway will let you know how i get on

cheers

Brake switch :)

I am going to write up a HOWTO for replacing this badly designed item which is very prone to failure (not just on Mercedes but other brands too).
