Warning light

C180 Kompressor 2004. Driving this morning when dash flashs red warning Battery/alt visit workshop. and noise from alt under bonnet this happened on and off for 1/2 an hour then cleared itself before I had chance to visit workshop? any ideas? would you see if it happens again as there is no point in taking it in when not doing it! Could it be the pully on the alt and is it replacable without renewing the alt?

Lose drive belt?

At the very least get a mech to look at it as it will break down at the most annoying moment, not sure on yours but my water pump is driven by the alt belt.

So get it checked asap.

Have a look yourself use a torch and make sure all the pulleys look in line.

did you drive through a puddle when it happened could be as simple as that keep eye on it

if happens again best get it checked

alternator pulley

Turns out to be alternator pulley, can this be changed with alternator in situ, [special tool needed] or has the alternator to be removed from car, and ideas on cost?
