Warning sensor (pads)

Just wondering - on the W202 are there pad wear sensors front and rear?

The light came on this morning but I only had the front ones done a few months ago so doubt it is them (that and the light flickered a bit as a the pad wore down). Today, solid orange light straight on.

Is there a chance a sensor has popped or something with the cold or does it mean i need rear pads? The car walked the MOT just two weeks ago and the tester said nothing about worn pads.

Cheers,

m.

Thanks chap,

Seriously though... only had them done a matter of a few months and 2000 miles ago. Can't be out already so suspect a sensor failure somewhere!

Mind, the car was intermittantly telling me I had a light out last week. Its now decided it hasn't so perhaps an electrical gremlin sneakign in with the cold!

Could be a dodgy sensor or some dirt or something.... They are around 2 pounds from eurocar parts. I had a host of things appear on the dash but my pads were really low! As a measure one pad had total of 2 mm of brake material left. I had the BAS light come on and light the whole thing up like a xmas tree. Could be an electrical gremlin-just monitor the dash for a few days....

Cheers! Wondered if it was a bit of muck or something. I'll see what happens and potentially buy s couple and try to fit.

If it's not raining at the weekend i'll get the wheel off.

Right, nice chap at the garage has confirmed pads are fine but still showing up a change. He says its likely to be a bad earth somewhere but if it is due to cold/damp, once the sensor has been tripped is that it? Does it need replacing as it will always give a 'change' reading?

anyone any ideas?

thanks!

The system relies on the sensor wire touching the disc and making an earth to put the light on. You either have a faulty sensor or an earth fault somewhere on the wiring to it.

Cheers Gordon. I'm going to order some more and see if that sorts it. The light flashes on driving down the road so it is most disconcerting!

The wire from the pad sensor can sometimes foul the retaining clip and cause an earth. Look for a bare wire on the sensor.
