Warranty Choice Advice

Sorry Mr Dazzler, yes indeed it had 73K on it at the end of the MB warranty and the enquiry was for tier 1

Like any insurance company, they are never going to make a loss.

Actually I am going to move it on soon before it gets to 80K as I hardly us it anymore and the wife loves her Lexus RX...........bye bye ML, shame as it's a really lovely relaxed way of driving around.

I recently renewed mine for an E350cdi Coupe and paid £639 in December last year. I was expecting it to run to four figures so was pleasantly surprised!
I weighed up the pro's and cons of the others on offer and even one offered by a MB dealer, but went with the MB one as it seemed to give comp cover for a reasonable price and as I have the servicing deal on the car anyway I won't be taking it anywhere else.
One warranty trip will have paid for itself at the rates they charge. Also don't take it over 12 months payment terms it's much more expensive, from memory it was then up to something like £850 !!
Cheers Glyn :thumb:

To me, £2500 for an ML shows just how dodgy MB think these cars are.

Or just more complex and not so molly coddled as thier lesser brethren :D

I'm pleased that I am not the only one to be in a fuddle over getting an extended warranty, I'm driving a C250 cdi AMG sport saloon, 11 plate with no warranty as of Saturday night just gone midnight... argghhhhh sods law coming my way!!!

I tried mondial and had a quote at tier 1 for some £580, I also had warranty wise quote £520 and the Performance and Prestige Luxury Care of Warranty Direct come in at a whooping £385.00 with no excess £0... I have their very neat little booklet in front of me with their covered and not covered stuff in it, it asks the usual questions, current mileage.. 32K (well 33, now) yearly mileage 12K last MOT 07/03/14 last service same date, my chosen registered VAT garage up to £200.00 per hour, once they had my registration that generated a figure, which over the phone soon dropped to £385.00 or £96.25 over 4 monthly instalments, (they offered).

The policy comes with allsorts of goodies, but what got me was the if's and buts on any warranty, the "if" its covered, and the argh but, "not that"! and like someone else said is it worth the paper they print it on, and over three years its £1200, would that be enough with Merc goodwill and a problem to sort it?

My cover ended this weekend, WD said my new cover (if I go for it quickly) will start from day 1, otherwise in a weeks time I may have to wait 90 days for it to kick in.

WW said it starts from day 1 on the phone, but there is something about 90 days mentioned on their web site.

Mondial said my recovery and Merc roadside will run out if I don't renew with them... REALLY?! I don't think so! It is there in full mode for 4 years from new and as long as your serviced by Merc it can last 30 to 35 years, though the cover does diminish a bit.

Once WD kept ringing me I then said do you know, leave it, Ill sort it out in my own time, gee he saw his commission going out of the window, and funny how his attitude changed! Is that the way a claim would go too, I wondered...

So who do you go with, is my Mercedes really likely to blow up in the next year or two? Do I want the risk? All the way through this forum, we haven't had many issues, if any, from drivers who have said I have used the warranty company, they were great, does that mean Mercedes don't brake down... hmmmmm naïve huh?

I know £385 isn't a lot to pay for peace of mind for the first year, but having just paid the lease company their settlement figure of £16K (although I have had it from new. to keep the car), the third year service and its first MOT, followed by the years Tax I'm feeling a little tender, well my wallet is. And I know I need to replace my rear tyres soon, do I really want to part with another lump for a warranty that it may not be worth the paper its printed on.

Someone come back and put their arm around me and reassure me please!!! lol...

Oh a bit of great news my way though, after the three years, a week within warranty I complained about the centres of my 18" 5 spoke AMG wheels being a little corroded around by the centre caps, my MB dealership photographed them and although slightly, hmmm kerbed, replaced all 4 wheels under warranty within 2 days! A big thumbs up there, because they said they had kept me too long, they further didn't charge me for a set of windscreen wipers too, another £38 squid kept in my wallet, and to boot, they touched up three stone chips FOC. Now you can't knock that!

From the other side of the fence and a repairers point of view, Warranty Direct were brilliant to deal with they never refused a claim we put to them and were so professional to deal with it was a refreshing change, we had many happy customers who placed their dead car in our hands we handled all the communications with WD and returned them a fully working car at no charge and no hassle.

WD gets a 10/10 from me :thumb:

I'm in the same boat - wondering whether a warranty would be a good idea. Still not sure what to do. The pessimistic/realistic (?) side says get a warranty for peace of mind, bearing in mind the cost of parts & labour and the complexity of these cars, and the optimistic side says spend the money on preventative maintenance/repairs as and when they arise.

A penny for your thoughts. S320CDI, well-maintained but with about 110,000 miles on the clock.

Blimey - that's the most fullsome praise from a garage I've ever seen for them!

I must admit I was nervous when they suggested to the garage that had my car that the road-spring had broken due to corrosion but thankfully the garage said the right thing.

But being realistic, why else would it have broken?

I've heard of WD doing the same thing with failed A/C condensers - putting words into the garage's mouth.
