Warranty Direct versus Warranty Wise

Spot on !

I'm giving one of those Nick Hewer expressions.

What it says is:

If the required repair is a minor one, and can be completed at the roadside, Mercedes-Benz will cover the cost of labour and small parts. This excludes the cost of batteries (unless within the warranty period) / tyres / keys / fluids.

That covers minor assistance to get you going. I guess they carry a stock of free issue spares such as fuses and various bits and pieces.

If they can't manage that then once the vehicle has been recovered to a service centre then the costs of repair are yours to bear.

When I had my CLK, on one occasion the engine went into limp mode on my way home. Next morning I called MB at Milton Keynes who sent the R Class round to my house and the engineer plugged his laptop in under the dash, fiddled around, replaced one of the coils and was done. Good service and no charge for the coil.

I think from what i've read AA do a similar service for small repairs up to 500 quid.

Basically if ur with the AA breakdown(£29 to get u started) you can cover small repairs for £69 at the roadside.(Breakdown repair service) This is probably a must for older cars, maybe a second runabout.

Their AA warranty is useless as it does not cover much and excludes wear/tear.
Tesco warranty is fine as long as ur vehicle is just over 3 years old.

If a vehicle has just been serviced or has manufacturers warranty then looking at WD TC they will cover wear/tear from day one but not cars which have no warranty. Just went thru their TC under a microscope.

As you say they may be little to choose between WD and W Wise but I've just read about WD covering a valeo issue on E Class on this board so they may be better for Mbz (even though Mbz should have done it).

If anyone has any exp with WD/Wwise i would like to know how it went for the boards and members benefit.

Warranty Wise seem to be able to wangle their way out of any claim - just have a read on the Maserati forum. I had their warranty and it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.

Seems like neither is particularly reliable and either could let you down on a claim. Any other ideas short of just putting a grand or so away each year and hoping?!!

An alternative is to tuck away those premiums in an interest-bearing account specifically for unexpected car bills. If you don't draw on it, you can have a treat after a few years. With a well maintained recent car such as yours, that would be my inclination, but I'm happy to take the risk.

I wonder how many humps there are between you and me in Humpenden. I'm near the town centre.

With all this talk of warranty it reminded me that I hadn't extended my MB warranty when it expired in December, opting to take one out just before the car's birthday.

Well it will be celebrating later this month, so I just bought a Tesco Car Warranty. The price seems reasonable if the items covered really are covered, but I suspect only time will tell.

I've previously been concerned by reports that warranty companies can sometimes try to wriggle out of paying, and hence I thought Tesco may be a relatively safer option because of protecting their reputation - even if it is administered by a specialist insurer.

That's what I'm leaning toawards now, just sticking the money away in my 1% account and hoping the car is good to me over the next couple of years. (I REALLY fancy the new E Class estate in a couple of years time, when the values are nice and reasonable!)

You said it! Waaay too many humps (and cafes and restaurants!) But I do like Waitrose and the green is great in summer :) By the way, I've found Humpenden is great for classic car spotting! :)

I had an MB Tier 1 warranty. Can't recomend it highly enough. Covers the lock stock bucking lot.*

*= obviouslty there are exclusions such as fasteners etc.

True - but its a case of "you pays your money - ---" MB warranty for my car was, if I remember correctly, £690 or was it £960 - any way it was one hell of a lot - whereas Warranty Direct was £320.... so I am prepared to take some of the risk..

SLK warranty...

Hi All,
I've just bought my first Merc, a 2005 SLK 200K. It's come with 12 months tier 1 warranty and MB are offering Tier1 for a further 12 Months for £653. Would those you more experienced with SLKs etc recommend extending the warranty at that price?
To get the £653 price I need to pay now. If I choose to extend the warranty later in the year MB tell me it'll cost ~950.

I'd be grateful for any advice!
Cheers

Welcome to the forum.

The Tier 1 warranty is an excellent product, and pretty much covers everything. That's a fair discount too.

If you shop around, you will get cheaper warranty cover, but it will not be as comprehensive - and in most cases, by some margin.
