If possible, can you provide the following information if your Mercedes is over three years old.

1. Have you extended the MB Warranty.
2. How many warranty claims have you made.
3. If you have an Independant Warranty which Company.
4. What payments do you make.
5. What warranty claims have made since vehicle not with Mercedes.
6. What mileage has your vehicle done.
7. What is the biggest claim you have made, if any.

The reason for this information is of general information regarding my decision to take out a warranty on my CLS500 which has 36k miles and is now 6 years old.

Your help would be appreciated.

This is a generally helpful thread. Unfortunately, I'm only about to find out as my warranty is about to expire.

As a starter for ten I believe the main aftermarket warranty is Warranty Direct.

I got 6 months with WarrantyWise (the one endorsed by Quentin Wilson) when I bought the car - to run when the MB warranty expired.

Whatever you decide, always check the labour rate which varies between £35 and £200 per hour.

You may find this useful.......

Just to clarify 2., both vehicles had minor stuff done under warranty but nothing significant. The SL had a new battery, the Vito had new front window regulators and a driver's seat armrest.

I had a Tier2 Mb warranty when i bought the car and the oil cooler was replaced under that, after that ;-
1. yes to a tier 1 (which has just run out)
2. door handle, tpms sensor, tpms control unit, folding mirror frame, claim raised for a dynamic seat issue, to be re-booked to finish the seat claim.

1. Insurer collects premium from you and 1,000s of others.
2. Insurer puts all money in a pot.
3. Insurer incurs overheads.
4. Insurer pays remaining 55-65% of all money collected out in claims.
5. If claims go up so do premiums thus maintaining that steady 55-65% ratio.

Result - you might get lucky in any given year but over a period of time you'll lose 35-45% of the money you shelled out.

Insurance/warranties - buy them if you're legally obliged to have them - otherwise keep your money for the inevitable rainy day but end up quids in over the alternative.

1. Have you extended the MB Warranty. NO

6. What mileage has your vehicle done. 52000
7. What is the biggest claim you have made, if any. N/A

As yet, had no issues.

Given my experience (7 months and 4000 odd miles), you will probably be fine also.

I think the V12 is the more 'interesting' motor in the warranty department.
