Hi

I am about the push the button a Porsche Cayenne and need to decide on a warranty.

I looked the Porsche warranty but at £1400 plus the check at £216 and probably a service as the last one the car had was at a specialist, so that makes it fairly uneconomical.

What are people experiences with either Warranty Wise or Direct?

I am leaning towards Warranty Wise as they seam to be used by some well known dealers such as Sytner and Tom Hartley.

Regards

Tan

My S203 came with a full 12 month Warranty Direct jobbie, within a month I had MAF failure, no hassle getting it fixed under warranty BUT at a garage of their choice - a non-specialist mob on an industrial estate. I would not take my 968 to that garage, and I suspect you would not be happy taking the Cayenne to such a place.

Another factor is the "guarantee" on any repairs. I suspect that after market warranties carry limited guarantees, whereas I think you'll find that any work carried out under a Porsche warranty carries a pretty bullet proof guarantee.

Hi Tan

I chose Warranty Direct. They do different tiers of cover - I opted for the one that lets you use Main Dealer facilities. It was called Prestige Care I think, but they may have re-badged it now.

I can say from experience that WD are VERY strict about letting an engineer see a problem before authorising repairs. I'm pursuing them for reimbursement of a replacement throttle body at the moment (and finally getting somewhere). They were happy for it to go to main dealer, but repairs commenced without inspection.

Also, if they inspect your car prior to incepting cover (they did mine) make sure that the engineer is familiar with your make / model. Judging from the report on mine, he'd never been in a car with keyless go, heated seats, Command, or anything a bit out of the ordinary. All these were in perfect order, but he didnt know how to operate them. He even noted that it needed a new battery (one had been fitted the day before at my request!) due to a message he saw on the dash. This was in fact was referring to the fob battery...

Sorry, mini-rant over. I'd guess its much of a muchness out there in warranty world, but I did find out afterwards that WD do negotiate on premiums if you push.

On the whole I think WD are ok, mine cost about £800 and is transferrable to a new owner.

Hope this is of at least some use...

Cheers

If you play hard to get with warranty direct it is amazing how the price can come down. For one of our cars they reduced the price, upgraded the cover level and included main dealer with virtually no effort on our part. Their price was significantly less than warrantywise. Not had to claim but they both have a good reputation as long as you play by the rules.

I had that too - do an online quote and put your correct details in and they'll call you back a couple of days later and do almost anything to get you to sign up. I got all the optional covers (emissions, airbag, COMAND etc) thrown in for free, the waiting period for wear and tear claims reduced from 90 to 45 days and the excess reduced to zero. They increased the mileage limit from 12K to 24K at no extra cost, and did 13mths cover for the price of 12.

Bear in mind that if you go for the franchised dealer rate cover then the car has to be franchised dealer serviced.

i just took out a 2 year warranty with WW after being with WD for 3years, a while back my front spring snapped and WD would only replace that one! when i asked the question to WW they said they replace the two as this is what the dealer would recommend, also its the best warranty you can get (tier 1), no execs & any garage that is VAT registered also £150 per hr labour, it starts cover 1st jan.

If that's what they say then fine, but even the manufacturers warranty won't replace springs in pairs.

WW do have that horrible get-out clause of "premature wear & tear" - WD will pay on failures due to wear and tear but reduce the payment by 10% for every 10K miles over 60K.

Mercedes of Worcester said if I had merc warranty they would have replaced both springs saving me £130

I've been with WD for some years (WW prices eye watering & nothing I could find to differentiate)

Just remember they are an insurance company, by definition economical with the truth to the stage of near lies, and will try to wriggle out of most claims - that's the nature of the beast.

Having said that, have not had a claim rejected yet & in return for about £2k premiums over the years, have had about £4.5k paid out, so worthwhile.

Caveat emptor however - do not expect (eg) the lowest level of policy to cover what the highest level will - obvious statement I know, but you'll find most of the "knockers" went for the cheapie then got upset when the claim was rejected
