c class convertible
I've just been told the warranty on the Chrome around my C-Class convertible that as oxidised is not covered with the warranty as I had it cleaned at the local car cleaning facility and Mercedes so don't take you car to them

Sounds like b*llsh*t to me , cannot see how where you clean your car would effect their liability under warranty if the item is normally covered for deterioration. Unless of course they were cleaning the chrome with sandpaper! No doubt other more legally aware minds will comment.

They say that the cleaning chemicals they use are not Mercedes approved if that's the case why are they not informing new Mercedes owners not to take their cars there I've got a meeting on Thursday of this week will tweet let you know it goes

A friends Audi A4 had very bad chrome trim ‘burn’ from the Traffic Film Remover used by a local car cleaner. He got no where with the company or his insurance, with regards to replacing it, so ended up getting it vinyl wrapped in black.

I am afraid this sort go thing is very common. All the local "side of the road" car wash facilities, want you in and out in the shortest time and leaving with a really clean car. Most of these wash companies use chemicals that are far too harsh and after a few washes start to eat into the chrome/alloy parts. My alloys on an Audi were perfect for 7-8 years until I started taking my car to the local car wash every fortnight. Within a year the alloys were bubbling everywhere. Took them to a wheel refurbisher who said "you have been using a local car wash" he suggested they were using brick acid cleaner on the wheels to get the tar spots off!!!

I do not use them anymore and keep the profits of Halfrauds up instead

I agree with the comments about local car wash chemicals but can say first hand that they are not always the issue. My first C Class (W204) suffered similar issues with the chrome and also the wheel centres. That car was bought new with MB Starguard and I never took it to a local car wash. It was regularly cleaned by me and I even used a water filter, as the water in this area is very hard and leaves stains. I was replacing the car with a W205 so it was a battle I did not need to have but I think the initial response from MB is just a fob off.

The use of TFR is widely documented especially with alloy wheels. I think you will struggle if they say the damage is caused by a caustic cleaner being used and yes your claim would be better directed at the car wash
