aaargh!! it looks like we've got one in the making  . They've drilled a couple of holes in the old railway sleeprs we have that support our decking. We noticed the sawdust a few days ago and tonight have seen about 5 wasps going in and out if the holes.

We had a big nest in the eaves a couple of years ago and got the council round to look at that but it cost us about £50. I wonder if it's something we can do ourselves. I've done a quick Google search and it seems it should be a fairly small nest at the mo, but many sites say call the professionals in. What do you chaps reckon? Can we DIY and if so - what do we need?

Pammy we had a nest over the porch last year and bought a foam spray from Tescos that seems to have worked a treat this year its called Wasp DESTROYER Foam - all very butch its made by Rentokil - good luck.

;) Cheers - I'll have a look then and see what I can find ;)

It does indeed. Going to take a trip to Homebase and then Morrisons(tell anyone I went to Morrisons and I have to kill you) to see if I can get this foamy stuff. The wait for them to go to sleep tomorrow evening - then - evil cackle time :D :D

wasps nests

couple of things pammy do not block the holes where they are entering ...if the foam dose not work....get a specialist out its well worth the money we have had 1 this year we where just sat havbing a barby when a swarm came from nowhere very frighting for the kids ran inside called them out they spay a dust around the entrance and the wasp carry's this into the nest as it goes about its business it destroys the nest and any other nest that the wasps visit in the surrounding area.day after back to normal...don't leave it to late .just keep an eye on the areas they are entering there maybe to or three point of entry . check as much as you can then point out the places to the specialist. they do become amune to most types of wasp killer.as they seam to double in numbers almost overnight

You haven't resorted to old jam jars yet then Pammy ?

Happy customer for the "foam spray" style of wasp treatment.

Smallish nest in the garden, approached with care.
Raised can, aimed from three feet back and let the foam fly !

Foam soaks into the nest and the job was done inside five minutes.

Took a bit of courage and repeated glances over shoulder to ensure the escape route was clear...

wasps

I had a wasp nest in the loft last year. :(
i got a spay can from B&Q which did the job, :D
but i did manage to scare my neighbour
as i was climbing up to get to the outside wasps nest entrance
wearing my full motorcycle gear including my CRASH HELMET
after she stopped screaming she did see the funny side. :D

Update - sorry for the delay. After looking at all this really good info'n etc we took the decision that as we couldn't see exactly where the nest itself was, it was either in a railway sleeper or under the decking, we decided to call in a professional. £35 later and we seem to be rid of the blighters.

We saw a massive one crawl in through a very neat hole they'd drilled in one of the railway sleepers that support our decking but there was lots of sleeper dust around so we just weren't confident that we could get them adequately without being attacked  So I did a risk assessment and decided to transfer the risk ;)

Thanks for your help though chaps - would feel happier about doing it myself now if we could at least see the nest.
