Water in fuel light flickering intermittent

Hi, to anybody that might be able to help I own a 2004 311cdi sprinter and I've noticed for a while now that on the dash the water in the fuel light flickers intermittent, I've looked a little today online and I'm concerned this could lead to a serious problem any help on where I should start to resolve this issue.

It is one thing I wasnt to sure on how often I should be doing that, I gave her a full service about 9000 miles changing the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, though she has recently been sat for 1 and half months stationary. But notice the odd flicker before that.
