Water in S204 nearside cubby hole

Following a downpour last night I noticed that the soundproof mat on the bottom of the nearside cubby hole is sodden. It has the towbar control in there and I use it to carry a small toolbag. Any thoughts please? All the rubber seals seem intact with no damage

It's not the infamous MB estate nearside deluge from opening the tailgate as the car has not been opened for a couple of days

maybe coming through from light cluster maybe or somewhere similar, maybe get in the boot and shut it and get someone to soak the rear with a hosepipe and see if you can see where the water is coming in from

Same problem here, in the C200 Estate 2008 model (S204) the sound proof mat under the fuse box in the cubby hole in the rear is very wet. Gollom did you figure out where your lead was coming from, I was looking extensively yesterday and couldn't find location.

Also what's this about the nearside deluge from opening the tailgate...
