Hi,
I've had the SL for about 4 months now and have experienced a few leaks into the boot and cabin over that time. I have been 'chasing' these leaks and I think I've cured them all....
It started with leaks into the top forward sides of the boot, the water was backing up inside the C-Pillar hollow seals and slowly weeping into the boot at the bottom of the C-Pillar. I cleared the drain holes at the bottom of the C-Pillar where it meets the car. I also put some sealant around the seal at the bottom of the C-Pillar and the leak has now gone....
Next up was a slow drip at the top of the A-Pillar where the roof meets the window frame, right onto my left leg. This was cured by liberal application of Mercedes Sliding Compound ( A 000 989 36 60 ) where the A-Pillar joins the window frame....
Next up is one I struggled to trace. I noticed a water mark just behind the driver's seat on the carpet. Water had been finding it's way in at the top of the rear window, collecting, and dripping down behind the seat. I traced this to yet another blocked drain hole at the top of the C-Pillar. Cleared the hole and leak gone...
And finally, not a leak, just another drain hole blockage... the drain hole under the fuel filler was blocked so water ( and dripped fuel ) was collecting until it overflowed and ran down the outside of the car, a wee bit compressed air and it is now clear and draining beneath the car...
After all that there is actually a question for anyone in the know.. Is there a schedule of work or similar that documents all the drain holes so I know where to look for any I've missed? If it showed the drain paths that would be even better so I could be sure there were no split tubes etc. It's a 2003 car.
Thanks
Robert
