Water meters

What do you mean.??

Water meters are great..We saved nearly £400 per year by going on one ten years ago, more like £580 now...:bannana:

It makes no difference. The rate they get charged will be more than adequate for their consumption and all high consumers will be metered already.
Only farmers get unmetered, rate free water.

Being on a meter definately makes people think about wastage. In our old office a leaky urinal valve sent the meter reading sky high. The water company came and investigated.

Wrong my friend! I'm looking at a food business at the moment which has no meter.

And what water rate do they get, not the same as a domestic one. It will be tailored to business type.

Anyway, if not, are you saying that it's a bad idea to have a meter because it stops individuals picking up a commercial enterprise's expenses.?

Meterage seems the fairest method.

We use a lot of water in our line of work(catering) so if metered surely it will be more expensive, or if not we will have to be careful for no wastage.

Well, isn't that the idea of metering.? Irrespective, surely the water supply company charge according to your intended usage.

What i'm saying is we wont be able to use as much water as we like once a meter gets fitted,

I have no meter, so it's not just farms.

I think I've somehow confused people.
I didn't say that all businesses were metered, just that their rate would be adjusted according to usage.

Utilities, water, gas, electricity, what's the difference. Nobody would expect unlimited gas or leccy for a fixed fee would they?

Blimey - our 2009 water bill (unmetered) is £389 for the year. Either you live in a mansion, or the water bills in your area are outrageous!

We live in Devon, try a grand a year for our house! Parents are farmers and they have a meter! Their supply is taken from the main 200 yards from the start of their property, it leaked, they spent £1000 finding the leak, under a main a road, christ only knows what it's cost him to fix it in total, funnily enough it is covered by their insurance.

I aksed to be put on a meter in the last two houses and our current one.

I save a fortune and certainly don't knowingly use any less I'm cleaning the cars at least once a week, give the van a quick wash now and then. Little one has a bath each night. Sprinkler on during summer (if we get a summer)

Much much cheaper on a meter for us.

We have private water: totally free:p

We were told that you have to have it tested every year or so at some cost, and also pay the water board for lowering the water table, is this not true, or maybe it depends where you are.
