Hi all.

Managed to get my water pump off the 129 (300 24v m104) to trace a coolant leak. What a hellish job that rear bolt is :(

About halfway down the pump is a hole in the casting (a deliberate hole if you know what I mean). This is where it is leaking from.

Why is that hole there? It is also on the spare pump.

Bamboozled.

Believe it or not, most water pumps have these holes. They are there to give an early indication of water pump failure, as water will weep from this hole long before the bearings and seals give up, giving you time to get the unit changed.

Thanks for that. The hole is doing its job then on mine.

Inchcape dont list the pump :(

When I did mine I managed to get a good quality unit from my local allparts, it was a while ago but I am sure it was a genuine BEHR part that they sourced.

I feel your pain on the 4 mounting bolts :D

quarter inch wobblies and flexibles for those bolts.

lots of pump options listed by Merc for those 104 engines.

you used to be able to order the pump parts seperately ie. impellar, bearing housing, main body etc.

so see EPC or contact your dealer with car VIN.

Euro Car Parts do them for about £98.
