As I was driving through town the other day, and I spotted a brand new C class in red coming the other way. I pointed at the car as I liked the colour, and the driver waved at me! I just managed to wave back as he pasted.

Do you bother waving at other Merc's? or was this a rare thing?

When I had an original mini yes,

Even the MX5 I had with the pop up lights yes..

These days no one tends to wave... so I don't :) truth is more and more cars have darker side windows now and tints so to actually see the driver is harder.

Would be nice but think its a dieing trend

Very rare. Though fellow 124 owners have been known to exchange the odd covert knowlegeable nod of quiet satisfaction as we waft about our journey.

I don`t in the Mercedes but I enjoyed doing so in my 1969 H Reg VW Beetle complete with Bluespot Radio!

Regards

A bit like motorhome owners waving at each other. I keep forgetting and then when I do wave, the other MH driver doesn't wave back! Still do it when I remember though (MH based on a lowly Fiat chassis.....)

We still do it in the MH. Sometimes a wave, sometimes a finger , sometimes both driver and passenger...makes us laugh.

I always get a wave when I'm in the 968 from fellow owners. Not so in any Mercs I've had though.

'The wave' was always part of the culture amongst Beetle owners , even back when they were still current models .

During my motorcycling days , bikers always used to acknowledge each other with a wave - and you'd NEVER pass a fellow biker who appeared to be in trouble .

I did wave at fellow W201 drivers in recent years , but seldom got any response - so I gave up . I was taken completely by surprise a few months ago when a fellow W126 driver , who must have noticed my interest in his car , waved at ME ! To my shame I was so unprepared , he was past before I could return the gesture .

A couple of weeks ago a German S class was leaving John O Groats as I was waiting at the junction. He drove past waving at me. In this neck of the woods, you tend to know everyone, so I thought "who the hell is that waving at me, I dont know you" and just waved back. After he past me I noticed his German registration. He must have been a die hard MB fan from the motherland who says hello to anybody who owns one.

If the car is old or rare then I think its acceptable. I'll acknowledge anyone I see out and about in either an XJS or a W126. So far this year I think the total only comes to about 3 waves ...

and there I was thinking MH stood for Mile High:thumb:.........
MGB owners used to do it

Only ever waved once when i had just bought a new MX5, neighbour passed me in his one and gave me a look of scorn.

Never again

(Would always wave back though)

I don't tend to wave at other Vito drivers :D

Have swapped waves occasionally with other R129 drivers, last time was in a petrol station a few months ago.

When I first started driving I always got a wave from the AA man on his motorcycle combination. Those were the days.........

Sometimes I wave but sometimes I get smiles from ladies:ban:

i used to wave to fellow mini (original) owners when i had it & they waved back A LOT. dunno if it happens now (15 years ago...)

i got a wave from a MG midget owner on the way to the SL Rally a few weeks ago - took by surprised and didnt wave back.... assume he was acknowleging classic car ownership... or thought the car was a midget!

i passed an R107 SL the other day and didnt wave - wish I had done now - i'll get him next time!!

Not in the MBs

I do on the cycles; most keen cyclists will nod or wave a hand. We get a lot of interest when on one of the tandems
Also common on the motorbike- nods usually
