Waxoyl rust protection

Had a wee look into this today - seems like it'd be about £350 and take a week. It's a spray on rust protection system and from what I've read is supposed to be quite good.

Anybody used this or tried it?
 
The point is that on modern cars you should not have to a any additional corrosion protection!

Waxoyl is an older type and very messy to apply and prone to dripping after application in hot weather , Bilt hamber products are better but with any of these products it all depends on the preparation and how well the protection is applied to those areas prone to rusting.

Too true, but after the recent threads on rear subframe rust I've had mine jacked up in the garage today to have a look at it. Didn't seem bad for 10 years old, just some surface rust at the ends which I wire brushed, and coated with Waxoyl. I've been through a gallon can of Waxoyl in my time but have now taken to making my own from a mixture of candle wax, oil and white sprit. I prefer something stiffer than waxoyl, my mixture sets semi-solid at room temperature and needs heating before application.

I agree that Waxoyl is old hat now, I also have some aerosol cans of spray on wax which melts at higher temperature than Waxoyl. It's good for coating springs and safe with rubber.

I've recently prepared my 40 year BMW motorcycle for the winter salt. It gets spray on wax on all metal parts but not barrels, heads and exhaust pipes. In the spring it gets cleaned off with white spirit and all the alloy castings will come up like new.

Any rustproofing carried out has to be money well spent.
 
I’ve had the rear sub frame treated on my W164 ML as a precaution. Jay did it for me, I think it was Waxoyl but could have been Dinitrol.
 
I have just had the underside of my W202 treated with Dinitrol. Not that these models suffer from corrosion, but aired on the side of caution.:D
 
A few years ago I had my W209 rust proofed using Dinitrol. It took a week and all the wheel arches, plastic cladding etc was removed and every thing cleaned. Expensive at £600. £600 does not go very far on remedial bodywork.
