for Some time my 2006 C220 climate control had been faulty. It is hot and on full on every setting apart from the very coldest position Where it’s ice cold.
I bought a tester and it shows the in car temp at -40. If this is correct I guess the system is trying to warm it up, hence the full speed hot all the time. The strange thing is I fitted another control unit and the top fan unit and it made no difference.
Is the climate on a CAN system? Do any changes need programming?
this all started when I done a flap reset.

Any ideas please
Thanks

Quite often a flap reset will not proceed to conclusion and only a full reset using STAR will get everything back in sync.

Thank you for the reply. The problem started after a flap reset and a gentle blow out of dust from the vents. I just can’t bring myself to pay Mercedes prices for a Diagnostic test.
with Star can you test the climate control in depth?
Thanks Ken

Yes STAR can interrogate all systems in the car to a greater depth than 3rd party diagnostics.

I don't know anything about them but saw these guys mentioned (someone was asking about them, there wasn't any reply): Mercedes Specialist Lincolnshire, Main Dealer Diagnostic 48% Less . If you just want it plugging in and a fault report then don't see why they couldn't do that - it should show current and stored faults. It can be a bit scary as there might be a lot of them! It does take a bit of know-how to understand what it's telling you.

Another thread recommends Euro Car Care in Farcet. Looks like there's quite a few indies in the extended area - the stand out one is Alex Crow in Stowmarket but that's some way from you.

I bought a reader that seems to test most things but it won’t run and direct checks or program.
one thing that seems strange is it sees the in car temp at -40.
thanks Ken

Does the outside (ambient) temp work OK? Not sure on our cars but on some of them it compares all the readings.

I'm sure on ours it at least averages between the one in the heater control panel and the one in the roof. I know you've changed them but unless they were known good then you can't be sure what's going on.

Yes the outside one seems accurate.
I have a spare top fan unit and think the sensor is in there so will see if I can recognise it.

Thanks Ken

In my 2005 S203 the in-car temp sensor was in the facia of the air conditioning control unit, not in the OCP,
It's between the temp selector knobs (on the analogue Thermatic unit) and in the lower half of the right air distribution thumb wheel of the digital Thermatronic unit

This is American, and it refers to pre-facelift W203, but I think likely to be same:

Very interesting
thank you for your help.

I've looked at these things loads of times as I've never (owned it since it was 5mths old) been happy with the heating and a/c (especially the a/c) in my car.
