WD40 to remove tar spots?

I spent an unsuccessful 30 minutes trying to get tar spots off the roof of my car with AutoGlyms Intensive Tar Remover after reading good reviews about it.

I'm not knocking the stuff but I think most tar spots are only a car for a few weeks if that before they are removed.

Now my car was 9 yrs old when I bought it and being a W245 B Class the roof is quite high so might escape detailed cleaning... meaning I reckon these particular tar spots could've had a long time to settle in and get hardened.

I'm going to try WD40 next just wondered about my conclusions here?

I used the Autoglyms as directed, even poured the stuff neat on some patches of tar spots and left it to soak for a few minutes and then applied hard pressure to wipe away but they still wouldn't budge :(

cheap grade brandy should do the trick

Brandy? Really? Well I don't have any so can't be trying that one ;p
Clay bar n, but I have a clay mitt to try for the first time this weekend, didn't want to use it as it looks pretty grimey and there's quite a bit of it, thought it would diminish the longevity of the clay mitt... however many uses it might give me?
But I have WD40 at home :)

Petrol or methylated spirits?

I have some white spirits.... that was gonna be my second try if WD40 fails.

White spirits (not the same as methylated spirits) should do the same as petrol. Don't forget to wax the panel afterwards..

Autosmart tar remover may do the trick.

White spirits always works but make sure you wax it afterwards.

Haha not much love for my WD40 idea... ok thanks guys will check it out this weekend :)

It’s unusual to get tar on the roof of a car, are you sure it is tar.

I would be tempted to use a hairdryer first to heat the area then use any of the above.

Second to none is Autosmart Tardis.

Diesel .. They clean all the tools with it after tarmacking .Just do a little patch first.Full wash after your finished

Yeah how did tar get on the roof?
Looks like tar, can't get high enough to smell or taste it though... Thanks fellas for all the answers, I'm sure my tar problem days are numbered now :)

Put a drop of petrol on a spot, if its tar it will dissolve/thin out in a few minutes.
Looks more like paint splatter from a painter’s roller.

Have you tried the edge of a credit card to see if they'll just knock off? :dk:

As already mentioned, petrol is the man for the job by far.
