From a few years of 6' me squeezing into the seat after my 5' wife had been driving we now have some pretty severely worn cloth on our E280 (W124) seat bolster that is looking a bit of an eyesore and will only get worse. What is the best solution?

How easy to repair, or will it need recovered? Anyone done something similar?

Cheers.
Peter

I have a similar problem with my 260E so will be watching the outcome of this post with Great Interest.;)

What colour is the cloth?

It is plain jane grey cloth. Am I right in thinking, Sp!ke, that you have a cream interior in your attic?

I read some folks talking about getting seat covers from the stealers. Are those extra covers (like the sort of thing you can get at Halfords, albeit better) or replacement original covers? Anyone know?

Thanks.

The factory seat covers are only push fitted to the frames, and buying just the cover is an extremely cheap option compared to replacing the whole seat.

Yes it is a very easy job to change.
Only a phillips screw driver to remove the back panel, then it all push.pulls off from there...

That sounds encouraging. I might take a trek over to the stealers to see what the damage would be... I'll let you know.

Ouch! Called the Parts department and a replacement cover for the driver's seat is £126 + VAT (That is just for the seat back, not including the base.) :(

Think I'll wait a little while longer... perhaps at the next service I'll do it.

Anyone done this before and found a cover cheaper?

From the looks of your pic, you have mushroom and the square check pattern?

But you have a facelift model with the 'e class front end' from which i would assume you have the triangular pattern interior?

Let me know either way and i will see what i can dig out for you :)

Well ....

I could get you some sheepskin seat covers from MBUSA :D

I had this problem on my previous car, a 1986 190E, with blue cloth trim. The bolster next to the driver's door was completely threadbare. Infact both front seats really needed re-padding too. A local garage told me of a local firm that would re-pad the seats and replace just the outer strip of cloth that covered the side bolster with a colour matched leather strip. Price was approx £60 a seat, a couple of years back. I sold the car before getting the front seats refurb'd.

Maybe time to call a specialist car seat upholsterer?

A picture speaks a thousand words, and all that... here is the offending seat:

As you can see, you were right about the design, but the colour is grey (is that mushroom?!?! Depends how dirty they are! :D )

If you can find anything that would be great.

Cheers

I was thinking more along the lines of leopard skin myself... :D

Kinky,

One of these days I am going to tell the truth about that 'milk' stain you have on your rear seat. Ian Walker told me the whole story. I thought that kind of stuff was against the law! :D :D

The white stain on the back seat and tha fag ash on the door. Now who was it that was called 2 fags? Hmmmmm let me think :D :D
