Hi

I am looking for a good value for money Web hosting for my new business website, there is an offer on at Fast hosts at the moment but are they any good?

Also is it best to host with your web developer?

Regards

Tan

No it isn't, as most people fall out with or change their webdevs

+1 - I've had to 'rescue' and migrate at least three domains where companies have fallen out with their web developer / hosting provider.

Fasthosts are okay but IIRC they aren't as flexible when it comes to domain managment and DNS settings. I currently use Easyspace for domain registration (private and commercial) and hosting (private).

I had a look at PoundHost, but it does not look like they do basic web hosting, at least if they do I couldn't find it.

I can recommend UKSuperweb.

Based in England and an 0800 support number that's actually got someone on the end of it.

I can recommend godaddy.com for web hosting, you can pay by the month, year or in 2 year chunks, they allow multiple domains from the same account. I have used easyspace in the past though they are currently 50% more expensive than godaddy and don't offer multiple domains on a single account. I would agree with other posters that keeping your webspace and/or domain name and developer separate makes good sense.

Hi Tan,

I use EUKHost for all my sites. I am a web designer/consultant and have had had no problems with them in over 6 years. You get a choice of server (windows or Unix based) to suit the language/performance, full online domain management. UK number for helpdesk and online chat with them for quick issues. They also have a forum for members questions/issues.

Would highly recommend them.

EDIT: forgot to add as above - don't host with your designer. If you fall out it can be a real pain to recover the site.

I use strato-hosting - never had any issues with downtime over the past 3 years. Reliable and easy, and for new customers they offer very cheap /nearly free hosting for the first year.

What do you guys do to upset your web developers ;) Surely you'd have a contractual agreement over ownership of the site, code, etc, so even if you did fall out it wouldn't be a problem?
