Saw their advert of ITV last night and so looked on their site ( we are chopping out the wifes Zafira shortly so wanted an idea of current trade in values) and out of curiosity I put in the details of my lovely E55, and the cheeky sods valued it at £3080!

Good job Im not thinking of selling, just being nosey!. Still I guess they have to pay for those crummy ads somehow.

There have been loads of these threads! Basically if your car isn't in their target resale group you will get a much lower offer.

I can only speak from experience, which was positive. They took an Audi A4 off my hands for roughly trade price, not that far below a decent private sale price. No hassle, money in my account within a couple of days. No haggling, tyre-kicking, other messing around...

I hate to say it, but to be fair Simon, I don't think that's a totally unrealistic trade price for a 130k+ mile E55.

Privately it'd sell for maybe £2k more, but that's not 'trade' money, they need to make their margin on that price.

Never really understood why people are surprised at these values - they're in business to make money on buying cars at the end of the day :o

I have put my cars through their online valuation system just for a laugh, some have been pretty reasonable, like my Z3, basically they offered what I paid whereas others less than I could easily get privately.

Only thing is that although this is an online price, do they start knocking you down even more when you take it to them and they have a good look round the car, thus dropping their offer even further?

I don't think I'd personally ever use them but I can see the attraction for a quick sale.

Be careful about who you give all your information to.. That little play could mean you get emails, texts and post from all corners of the globe!

Mr Testy McTesterson of 123 Fake Street does all my online experiments :)

WBAC.com are well known for giving you a price, making you drive to them and then knocking hundreds off for any imperfection (counting on the hassle factor) - it's a business model al of its own these days (gold, mobile phone recycling, this, etc etc)

I bet they're useful if the car you're selling ain't yours to begin with though...

Im not massively surprised by their price, I was a little surprised they even quoted one for such a car ( the E55 not the Zasnooza). Its amusing all the same!, in these straightened times, and with the prospect of Log Book loans being outlawed, their business model might well have its day.

As someone who has sold a car through them, I'd say they are good for your "average" mainstream cars that most of the general public are likely to buy. For cars like yours that appeal to a far smaller group of people they probably don't want to buy it so give you a low offer. Anything over 4 years old they auction. There business model is for a quick turnover so anything older and more niche isn't what they want. Incidently they offered £500 for my C36.

I'll give you £600 ;)

£300 for my Golf (less than 8% of what it's worth) - not really their forte though..

i think CarCraft own webuyanycar.com so the good/newish cars will end up on their forecourts and the rest are probably auctioned off.

Yes they are and all of the cr@p is sent to auction, and it really is total cr@p.

TBH you might as well use BCA sure sell as you would make more money that way due to high auction prices. If you're car is clean, main stream, then you will be better off.

Their valuations vary, probably on what stock of cars they have and the plans for them. We sold a fiesta ST on behalf of the company I work for and they offered a very good price, but still got someone else to better it and sold for more.

They are laughable though and praying on people's misery and how desperate they are to sell a car. Making a mark up of £2k on a £5k car is daytime robbery.

A friend bought a car from Carcraft a long time ago - long before "We buy any car; We buy any car; We buy any car; any, any, any, any; We buy any car" existed and even then their prices were high.

I thought he'd paid over the odds and so I called in shortly afterwards to take a look around. There was a maze of 'sales' desks in an S-shape that you had to get through to reach the showroom, designed so that you had to provide your details to a sales person before you even look at a car.

When I said I didn't want to give any details, they didn't like it. I turned around and walked out. They didn't lose a sale, but I would imagine that they do lose some sales as a result of that approach.

It seems that they have a similar value proposition to DFS, nothing to pay for X months, Y years interest free credit, Z years extended warranty, etc. Some people are happy to pay a higher sticker price as a result.

No it's the Motor Trade, remember that they will have to valet, possibly paint. service and repair the car before sale. then there are other overheads. Oh and don't forget the warrenty that they have to provide for 6 months.....

Suddenly the so called 2k profit looks very small.

I thought it was 3 months?

no rules set in stone... 6 months would be more appropriate for a car worth say over 5-10K.
