Weekend fun car dilemma

Congratulations.

Great fun and cheap to run, what's not to like.

As you say, enjoy the car, give it some care and attention, and I wouldn't be surprised if you get more for it when the time comes to say goodbye.

In the meantime keep an eye on elise prices, you know you want to ;)

Regards, N
PS Green car, needs a yellow stripe!

Bit of a thread revival and a while since I posted on here. Just thought you might be interested - got the MX-5 and although it was not trouble free I have had a lot of fun getting her sorted out and some great track days this summer.

However I learnt that a big build project is probably not for me as I am amazingly efficient at wasting money, and then this came on the market at my original c. £8k price point

Can't really think of a better buy at this money although it is very top end for a Mk1. Picking it up tomorrow!!

The S212 continues to do terrific work as the family hack - spent all week 7-up down the country lanes and high speed cruising on the motorway on family holiday in Devon, super comfortable and silky smooth - after the MX5 it is nice to to have to wear earplugs on long journeys!

Looks like a lot of fun.

There is a black MX-5 that lives near where I work which is clearly not just a road car.

Wow, that's some spec & condition. I doubt very much you'd come anywhere close building it for the money. Lovely, nothing like a well sorted looking car. Says a lot about the previous owner too. Enjoy.

I have hardly slept since putting the deposit down on Wednesday I am so excited...

It is a real labour of love- there is an 80 odd page build thread on the forum but seems he must be one of those people who needs a project!

Also a very good driver by the looks - here is the car in action recently at Donington:

Ste's car. Nice machine. I've had it on my cornerweight scales and done a small bit of work on it. Congratulations!

What valuation for insurance purposes to do think, maybe more to the point, will you be able to get it valued close to the build cost?

Interesting question, I have sorted temporary cover but need to speak to some of the specialist insurers early next week. I believe Ste has it insured on an agreed value basis for somewhat more than the sale price but I suspect less than the build price...

I see. I asked party because I may be in similar position myself next year and I'd ideally like the car to be properly covered from a valuation aspect. Would be grateful if you could even generally advise on your insurance outcome. Thanks in advance.

No, Ste lives fairly close to me. He is selling the car because he fancies a Honda powered Lotus Elise apparently. Might have something to do with seeing one at my workshop. In fact it was the one I pictured earlier in this thread. Funny old world!

Ha ha I wondered if it was the same WEMorgan!

Dyno results in May this year were 149bhp at the hubs which he reckons equates to about 190 at the flywheel.

Amazing coincidence that! Yes I had gathered that was the next project, this one must just have started feeling a bit slow as it runs out of revs at 7.5k.

Just hoping he doesn't have a change of heart before this afternoon.
