Hi this is a strange one. I have just bought a e300 1998 and everything is ok but after I have started off when I put the brakes on it feels like I have got a big bowling ball in the boot. The car feels like I have been tapped very lightly from behind by another car only happens every now and again. could it have something to do woth the prop shaft? just a wild guess. Thanks Mike

Can you hear muffled cries for help?

It will either be a harsh gear down change or the subframe bushes need doing at the rear.

Yes but they are coming from the drivers seat. haha

Yes I think it could be the bushes I will have them checked out don't think it could be a gear down change as it is as soon as I put the brakes on so not really time for a change. just as if there is a very heavy ball in the boot. will be going to my friends to get the glow plugs done as the light is remaining on the dash after starting. I can point him in the right direction now. Thanks for the help

Rear subframe bushes as Ollie says. Its usually the ones at the front that go first. Pray its the bushes and not the chassis mounting points that have gone.

would it be a easy job to change the rear subframe bushes myself?

Not a routine DIY I,m afraid. Ideally you need good access to the car underside and there can be a lot of brute force involved if things are seized /rusted solid. Best left to the PROS imho!
