welcome all thoughts on which S class is best to go for

29mpg from a CL500 will be gentle motorway driving. The S320cdi will get near 50mpg with the same driving.

The difference around town is smaller. CL500 just under 20mpg ish and the S320cdi will get under 30mpg.

I have to say, my 2006 S320 was not the best in fuel. It was somewhere around 26mpg, and I bought the S350 thinking it would be around 35 max. I was astonished when I found that the W222 can do 50+ MPG. I never go below 40mpg unless I do a bit of "spirited" driving.

Many thanks to all who have given valuable advice, I was bold enough to suggest a W222, and kindly corrected by V12. MBDevotee helped greatly with what seems a sound rational. I am now on the hunt for a W221, but the big and most possibly close to last question I have on this subject is, are there any issues I should be looking out for specific to a 2010 to 2012 W221. I understand the electronics were overhauled between that model and the W222, was that just to keep pace with the ever changing tech world, or did it have other more specific reasons. All help most warmly welcomed.

It's a pity how some of these W222 threads have died out over a year ago. I've one on order and am hoovering up all the wisdom I can on this forum
