Having 'lost' my CLK500 for over 7 weeks to the repair shop last summer after an 'Insure the Box' customer scraped down the side of the bloody thing, guess what happened this afternoon......? As I stopped at a pedestrian crossing to let a mother and baby in a pram cross, I got 'stuffed up the ar5e' by another 'pay by the hour' driver......

The guy claimed I stopped 'unexpectedly' (at a zebra crossing!) - but has accepted full responsibility obviously. Looking at the damage to my lovely boot-end, I think he failed to brake at all - from an estimated 20mph. The collision triggered the rear seat head-rests and I can't close the boot, so may have floorpan damage. Rear valance is trashed, all the lights too.

MB Brentford will be quoting for the work, but does anyone know what the 'cut off' value is for a write-off? I just spent £3k on it in the last 2 months which I presume will get forgotten about......

Grrr.

I may be wrong but I think if it is a third party at fault then it will not be written off (unless it is completely beyond repair). As you are not at fault then it should be repaired regardless of the cost, so you, as the innocent party are not inconvenienced.
I seem to remember reading about a similar situation and cost was not an issue.
Better get some professional advice though as I could be talking out my exhaust pipe :)

Different insurance company's will repair up2 certain values against your car but anything above 80% of its value it is likely to b written off whether u were at fault or not a total loss is a total loss unfortunately

Do yourself a big favour, take it somewhere other than MB Brentford for the repairs.

Bring it over to Ashey Rd Garage, on the Isle of Wight, best body shop I've ever dealt with, well worth the trip free loan car (nothing special but does the job). Good honest garage top class work especially on bodywork. Mercedes recommended.

Finally got the 500 off to MB Brentford - despite all concerns and my own experiences last year with them after the last shunt.....(7 weeks to do a quoted 2 week repair....) However, as the 'at fault' drivers insurers are picking up the tab for the replacement vehicle and they've given me a Jeep Grand Cherokee with all the bells & whistles, they can take as long as they like....it's brilliant....!

I last had a Jeep three years ago on a US holiday and it was fairly 'agricultural'. This thing however is a whole different deal. Build quality is spot on and it's a pleasure to steer around on the motorway too. Had it a week and combined MPG is around 33 which is ok, ICE is awesome, SatNav & phone kit very impressive and (honestly) better than the ML320 I tested a month ago - and £5k cheaper.

Anyone else had a trip in one?

Any more prangs and OP will be on Crash for cash insurance blacklist! Have you put in a whiplash claim? ;)

Ha - you should have seen the look on the other guys face when I got out of my car. He was about 5'3" and I'm 6'6" - I think he got the whiplash......
