So last night we (me and Davy Mcneil) decided we'd go to the pub, we decided we'd take the scenic route.....via Birmingham and the Autosport Show at the NEC.

A number of travelling methods were planned, firstly the bus, though we'd leave Edinburgh at 9pm on the Friday and get back today lunchtime and so missing last orders by quite a long time, then we decided to spend an extra £10 and take the train, we wouldn't get to the show 'til 12pm on Saturday though and we had heard services could be disrupted so went back to the original idea of taking a car. My mate Stu said we could use his Fiesta ST, though as fun and childish it made me feel, a quick run through to Ayr showed how hellish it would be to drive. It was so noisy and hard!

Only one option was left, take the big floaty car and travel in comfort

So at 0520ish we left Boomtoon, the weather was terribble, torrential rain and flash floods, the world disappeared for a second or so after we hit a really deep puddle , fortunately this slight maritime mishap was no problem for the car :p

We got to the NEC, parked up and ticketed by 11ish.

Firstly, I'm no David Bailey so apologies if the pictures aren't epic :p Oh and you might have to turn your head to the side on a couple of pics lmao

Some guys were showing off their Chevy Cruz cup car, £17.5k ready to run, it could be a good wee championship.

SBD's Duratec on the Kent Cams stand, the engineers seem to be quite hot but I think it might not hold oil that well

Then of to Burtons to look at their old skool injuns  They had a Duratec there too, they seem to be the engine just now and after reading up on them and playing with the ST I can see why. The modern day XE?

Some, erm, car, the suspension mounts don't look very pedestrian friendly. Better not tell the EU!

Now to the Bloodhound SSC stand, what they're attempting to do is just incredible. 0-1000mph in 40 secs! This lovely 480bhp V12 is being used......as a fuel pump!

The car was obviously absolutely spot on, I wont diverge too much information but a good average speed was kept on the way back ;). If only it was more economical

Just out of interest what did you get to the gallon on this trip?

I haven't worked it out scientifically but I used around 125l for the 600miles so a terrible 22mpg.

The weather on the way down wasn't on our side with loads of standing water and quite a strong headwind (read as being buffeted around as much as some of the lorries!), then there was a few miles of traffic as we got near.

Curiously we only used about 50l (half tank) on the way back!?!

I went yesterday.

The show was a bit of a let down. No where near as good as it use to be.

the Live action arena was brilliant.

I said that too, I went in 2007 and it was brilliant, I guess with the current climate it was to be expected. The BRISCA F1 was brilliant, all their races should be indoors :D

22mpg? That isn't great you must have been using the power a fair bit!
I get about that on a run from mine.
