What’s an ‘Approved MB Repairer’?

The car is coming up for a B service, and I want to maintain my current Tier 1 Warranty (and possibly extend it later).

Reading the Warranty small print raises the question: What or Who is an “authorised Mercedes-Benz repairer”.

For example, are PCS in Portsmouth an ‘Approved MB Repairer’?

Yes, they are highly rated by numerous forum members, but will MB recognise them when it comes to honouring the MB Warranty?

Here’s that small print:

2.6.1 Servicing Requirements for your Mercedes-Benz
The continued validity of your insurance is dependent upon you having the insured vehicle serviced by an authorised Mercedes-Benz repairer in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.

(If you’re really keen, here’s the URL for the MB 4 page document: http://www.mercedes-benzwarranty.co.uk/PDF/MERCEDES_Q2B_PolicyHandbook.pdf )

So which Indys can I use, or do I just book it into a MB Main Dealer and take the cost on the chin?

Thanks :)

That's MB Dealer only,if you want to keep the MB warranty,Indys are what their name implies, independent alternatives to the MB network.

Approved workshops/repairers are common on the continent. Just like a main dealer but no expensive sales operation/showroom to fund. Not many in the UK and some are places that lost their sales franchise a few years ago but kept the servicing. I think Rivervale in Brighton and Viking in Canterbury fall into this category.

Rivervale in Brighton is an example. They are authorised parts suppliers & repairers and they are right next door to Mercedes of Brighton who took over the Rivervale Mercedes dealership, changed the name and dumped the old phone number

As this is not the standard "sold-with" warranty, but is an aftermarket warranty, MB can put this type of restriction in. Effectively in the UK this will mean the official dealer network, although there are some service-only outlets as others have said.

In the UK, there aren't many "approved repairers" left - they were the old MB dealers who were canned maybe 10 years ago when MB almost completely changed its dealership network.

For example, Ciceley Continental was one, but they stopped doing car repairs a few years ago when they moved: Ciceley Mercedes-Benz :: About Us

Vikings in Canterbury, is still going: Vikings Canterbury Kent, Independant Used Mercedes-Benz Specialists, Used Mercedes-Benz for sale, Second Hand Mercedes-Benz, Used Mercedes-Benzs for sale

I don't know if this makes any difference, but I bought the car 4 months ago from Reading MB, and it came with a years Tier 1. It's this I want to protect, and then in 8 months time, a probable renewal.

You see, I have ABC on my 350, and like many 500 owners I'm anxious about oil leaks and subsequent suspension replacement costs.

I've read the "What's included" and "What's NOT included" in the Warranty and I'm under the impression that ABC *is* included, right?

Thanks :)

Yes. On approved used car to keep the approved used warranty this means uk dealer network effectively.

It will cover abc but it's a second hand car warranty that mb do not have to give out so they can set the rules

Can I pin you down a bit here?
I agree the car is second hand, but Contractually speaking, MB don't make the rules up as they go along, so there must be a document that sets out what they are going to do, & not do. Guidance for dealers at least?

I thought that document was their Tier 1 warrenty T's and C's as per my earlier post. Yes?

Thanks :-)

I had my rear struts replaced under a Tier 1 Warranty, but note that the boot seals are not covered, so if they leak you are looking at £2k to replace them all. It also doesn't cover any faults with the seats (that's considered trim sir, and is not covered) and I had to pay for a wiring fault (£350).

Also note that when you get your renewal quote next year the cost is exorbitant for SL's - I last renewed in 2008 before I got rid and it was £1,459.

Their last, kind offer for Tier 1 on my ML350 was £1,569 (having refused to pay out for a split drivers seat (still split, I'm not paying to get it fixed), internal light/sensor that cost me £300 and a leaking oil line another £300). Naturally I refused.

As a comparison, the Lexus RX extended warranty cost is £995 a year and up to 140k miles - MB warranty is not available over 100k.

The Aston Martin warranty is £1,100 a year for a hand-built car that costs nearly 50% more than a SL (and looks 500% better).

I think the tier 1 warranty is well worth the money, any problems I have had MB have fixed it via the warranty. More or less a new A/C system. The ABC struts are over £1k a corner, a new command cost? Just renewed mine at a cost of £1380.06 in my mind worth it to me for peace of mind, mobilo here and Europe plus recovery to the UK. I asked about leather seats, trim is not covered, motors and wiring are. This was correct as of last week.
