I presume that the DVLA will remove from assignment any that would be obviously valuable but they can't know them all. Any that spring to mind? And no,I'm not going to hoover them up!

I guess I'm missing something here, but can you explain? I have no idea what you're talking about.

Ah, that makes sense now. I was having a thick moment.

NO12SEY - for the big exhaust brigade!

They were first released last year, so you can be fairly sure that most of the best ones will have been snapped up by now.

I hate plates where you "need" to change letters to numbers and vice versa. And "bolts" which magically transform letters and numbers. Miss spacing is, I think, marginally acceptable, although the police would disagree. And I think they must have been leaning on people as the number of "funny" plates seems to have fallen off quite considerably over the last 10 years. I have always wondered what the position would be if you displayed such plates whilst motoring on the continent.

Doctoring plates is proof you didn't spend enough on the plate in the first place. But fear not: Viz, that fount of all knowledge, suggested that you merely change your name by deed poll to match your number plate (much cheaper).

Oh most knowledgeable one how does that happen?

The DVLA makes plates available for sale around three months ahead of the introduction date (the "12" series was released on 5th December, even though they can't be assigned to a car until next month). During this period they will offer any valid combination of letters (apart from those withheld for auction or banned as being offensive), but by now range of combinations available will be more restricted, as large blocks of numbers are allocated for the forthcoming new registrations.

Anyone with a keen interest in acquiring a "12" plate (including the dealers) would have been on the DVLA website back in December, as it's all a question of first come, first served.
