What are the symptoms of an E270 auto box that needs a fluid and filter change?

I've only done 900ish miles in my 179,000 mile fsh E270cdi and I don't know when the auto fluid and filter was last done. It's a 2004 E270cdi.

There is a bit of a whine when the car is pulling away or under load and I'm wondering if this could be the auto box complaining about the state of the ATF or just the way 270s are??

If you don't know when the atf was last changed, just get it done, no harm only good..

The 270 cdi engine has a unique like whine sound .it comes from turbo.

Arh! probably nothing to worry about then. I'm familiar with the C class petrol supercharger whistle but not this whine.

I'll put an ATF and filter change on my short list of things to do.
