A bright red Post Office lorry, diesel, no syncro, no brakes, rubbish steering, nackered suspension in central London. The next day, out collecting the mail in another shed.

Crown Immunity is a wonderful thing!

brand new fiat 500 1 litre, the steering was dangerously light at 60mph
my instructor repeatedly said that for the reverse park manoeuvre "picking it up and putting it in your pocket is NOT a valid technique" seriously tinny little box, felt dangerous, felt like the crumple zone was your face lol

1964 Hillman Super Minx Reg. BLR567B, Passed first time not telling the year though

I passed in a 1974 Triumph 1500

A 1978 Ford Fiesta 1.1L Metallic Brown, my first car bought from my grandad in 1980. He replaced it with a Mini Metro HLE, I think I got the better deal, the Fiesta was an excellent and modern car in its time.

I passed my Motorcycle test in 1979 on a Honda CB100N...

Now that one takes me back . Amongst the many cars to have passed through my hands over the years , I had a Series IIIC Hillman Minx , registered OKS 249 , the actual car pictured below , I wonder where it is now ? I sold it after a former Hillman employee I met told me the model was known as 'The Gay Look' back in the day ! Of course , that word had a different meaning back then .

i took one driving lesson from an instructor who smoked, with the windows up, in a nissan micra  Couldnt find anyone else at the time so would just badger anyone who was eligible to sit in the passenger seat of my car.

taken the test two times, and passed both of them (without losing one!) ;)

1st time two months after my 17th in a '77 Mini Clubman (auto!) that I had been restoring since my 15th.

3 months after that I passed in (manual!) '83 VW Polo Coupe S.

CGW330H.

Blue Morris Minor 1000 2 door.

Passed first time, of course! (29 years ago!!)

Taught by my parents in a Series 2A SWB LR, but had a couple of lessons and passed in my instructors car, a Triumph Acclaim:

Triumph Herald 12/50.
An excellent car in which to learn to drive. A 25 ft turning circle (I think).
Those were Happy Motoring Days!

Regards
John

I passed in a Herald too! Only 3 forward gears I remember

I passed in.....a Ford Escort:crazy:
I don't think the instructor ever said anything to me apart from 'Watch your Speed'
Funnily enough that is also what the Examiner said as well.
Come to think of it so did the police and magistrates:rolleyes:

I passed in my instructor's Mk3 Escort. A mighty 1.1L. The first car I drove was a Princess (wedge) 1.7HL.

Nissan Micra 1.3 (bubble-shaped, was a relatively new model at the time). 1.3 notice, not the pedestrian 1.0...

Did half my lessons in a Corsa C and the other half in a Corsa D

Learnt to drive in my Dad's T reg (1979) Audi 100 auto and then he crashed that and got a V reg (1980) Peugeot 604 - what a car that was!

Test taken 31 March 1987 and passed. Can't imagine many 17 year olds have taken their test in one of those!

I suspect I passed my test in a Herald, but it certainly was not one of the more memorable cars I have driven. Must have been the instructors.
I already had a Mini which I had completly rebuilt while still at school and I would continue to run for a 18 months. Then, I went and asked my mother if I could borrow her Mini as mine had broken down. I don't think I metioned at the time that it had broken down a large post and most of a hedge.....
