I've also seen a matt black CLK (209), but it doesn't look that great.

The lines on the CLK are too smooth and flowing for it to look right.
The C63 has more lines in the body, so it works better.

You can get a car wrapped in matt vinyl too.

You can get Matt paint, but it is very expensive, you cannot wax or polish it, touch up chips or any form of repair bar washing it.

I suspect it will look poor after a year or so.

Mercedes do not offer a matt finish but as above there are other options

Get one in a desirable colour which will increase its resalability and then wrap it! Remove the wrap when you want to sell it and expose that mint, showroom condition paint job! :D

I can imaging the local hoodies using it as a chalk board.:eek:
Personally I don't like the matt black.

The 520 is a matt wrap

At the factory.

No it's not...the wrap is done MB World at Brooklands who also make all the other changes to turn a PPP C63 into a DR520.

The car leaves the factory in the standard shiny colour...either Calcite White or Obsidian Black.

^ so if you get it wrapped in the yucky matt stuff and have it damaged / scratch is it either white or black underneath?

I guess this adds to the insurance also?

Just think it looks wrong imho :(

Nope it is done at brabus and the cars are all solid black not obsidian.

What's the difference between solid black and obsidian black

If you went to a reputable sign making firm that does vehicle advertising, they should be able to source and fit the 3M film. I've seen an RS6 wrapped in matt black and it looked very well. IMHO it looks amazing and when you come to sell the car, take the wrap off and underneath will be a showroom condition exterior:thumb:

Now are you sure about that? That would mean MB Brooklands sending the cars back to Germany for the work to be done! Odd given that a engine upgrades can be done in the UK.

The cars are 100% not shipped to Brabus first (ie before coming into the UK) as MB in Germany have nothing to do with this model (and as far as they told me, do not approve either!)

I'm pretty sure all the mods are done in the UK...indeed, you don't even have to have the wrap if you don't want it.

You are right on the colour though...it's not Obsidian which is another reason not to have a DR520...the non-metallic black is not very nice!
