hi

dunno if anyone can answer this, but i am taking my 320 CLK convertable into MB dealer for some work. i am to get a courtesy car. any idea what car this will be?

it wont be a Smart will it!?

I should imagine an A-Class or if you are lucky a W203 C180/200 Kompressor.

I think dealerships have fleets of varying caliber Mercs, but unless you are taking your S-Class limo in, forget it!

I was glad to get a C180K Avantguarde for 2 weeks when I needed it, but it did cost me an extra £140 to insure it as it was worth about £25k. Almost worth it, made mine feel even better when I got it back.

My local dealers either give Smart's, or A-classes, they have the odd C-class and E-class but these are even harder to get. Their argument with the smart car is that as they are cheaper they can have more of them thus provide them to more customers..makes sense I guess.

I think my dealer in London was using Vauhall Sigma's at one stage.

Have only ever had an "A" Class, apart from once when some urgent work needed doing just after I bought it, and there were no cars available, so the salesman had to lend me his own for a couple of days (W203) !!

Otherwise - don't expect anything comparable to what you take in !

I believe Lotusmark2 had a Corsa when he had his bodywork done and someone else I seem to remember had a Golf. I managed to get a 190E from an independant when I had work done, didnt expect it, was a nice surprise.

For my one and only service I was first offered a very tatty A140 with no air con on one of the hottest days of the year (last summer) I refussed and they found me a new C200 with the sports pack, 17" wheels and xenons. Had less than 1K miles on the clock which was very nice.

Less of the cheek . :p When your car does 40+mpg then you can say its better :)

When getting your car serviced , ask for an auto and then you will get something decent. As long as its got a star take it.

My local dealer books you a taxi to Harrogate, or work, or home if local etc and then contacts you and sends another taxi to bring you back. I think this is much better than all this loan car mallarky. Only like my own car anyway.

P.S. Had to have my pet cat, Jasper, put to sleep last night, 16.5 years but a bundle of fun until the last few days when he got really poorly with heart trouble. Fed Up

 I couldn't cope with that  I'll be making sure Harrogate book me a car in plently of time - and an auto too ;)

When I used to use a dealer I always ended up with a pretty basic A-class apart from one time when I got a brand new C240.

It would be fun to get a Smart, if you have never driven one before you can't help but smile/laugh.!!

Kinda tricky when I work about 50 miles away from the stealership though! I usually get an A-class but last time I had a w203 C180k, which as Graham says is a nice car but it makes you appreciate your own car when you get it back! I drop my car off just before the stealership closes, the night before my car is due in, then pick it up the same time the next day, there is little chance of them being open at 7am when I want to be setting off to work.

The last couple of times I've been given a Vaneo ...

... which was quite handy as I had loads of stuff to shift. Not a bad car ....err, van ...err, whatever! :)

Used to get mostly A Classes or C200's, as well as an E200k, and a rather nice E240 with AMG bits once!

I have had A class and C class as courtesy cars when my SL has been in for service.

The last A class was quite impressive as it comfortably took 10 bags of building sand in the boot/hatch . The steering was a bit light though. :)
The acceleration and braking times were also slower than normal.

I did vacuum it out before returning it to the dealer.

if we are playing a who's had more in the boot game ..,.

I had about 400kg of lead in a C200 w202 Courtesy car :)

Don't ask ...

Just before I sold my old C240 it went in for a service and repair and they gave me a A160. Not bad untill the gearbox packed up. They said they couldn't give me anything else so I went mad and they ended up giving me a ML500 for 2 days. Nice car just bad on petrol.

Sorry to hear about your cat, Portzy 16.5 years is a long time .treat yourself to something nice to take your mind off jasper , I find it helps. regards
