I have just bought some new railings for my front doorstep. Simply screwing them down wont work or be strong enough. I was told there is a liquid that you pour into the drilled holes, then place a bolt into the hole where it sets solid and then the railings base plate can sit over the threads of the bolts then you put the nut on to secure them. What is this maginc liquid.... guessing something like araldite or something???

JB Weld Epoxy resin from a builders merchants or fixings suppliers.

Drill, squirt, push in studding.
30 seconds later..done.

Or drill and put in a shield anchor , our bollards on the lock are held down with ( admittedly giant ones ) these ...

They hold a 100 ton barge without pulling out so some railings should be ok ..

The touble with anchors in brick work is that they can split the brick due to the expansion of the anchor.

True , when Matt said doorstep , i assumed it was a big block of granite or sandstone.

Thankyou Dieslman and Howard...., you have been a great help.... i shall get down to B&Q and get on with it....... Cheers again. I will get you a drink at a meet...... with Ginas Credit Card

Oi oi! First I've heard of this you cheeky so and so! My credit card? You don't know the PIN!;)

PS, I've been out all day, where are the railings? They're still in the garden....

Just been on the B & Q website and cannnot seem to find this magic JB WELD STUFF.... have you ever bought it from anywhere or should i just buy it over the net

Go to a local fixings and fastenings (screw, nuts and bolts) place or a mercents like travis perkins and they will have a suitable buildings adhesive. It comes in tubes like silicon sealnt but is twin pack epoxy, but self mixes in the nozzle.

Get some threaded studding and nuts and washers as well to fix the railings with.
