Hi!

I'm new to MB and I've seen a few of you call your cars by a W number.

I have a 1999 C240 Sport Auto - does that have a W number please??

Thanks

Paul :D

Your car is a W202. Mine is a W210. It denotes the model type. The latest C class is a w204. That way we know exactly what is being discussed.

Yours is a 202 because thats what Mercedes decided it should be.

Try here for a full listing of model numbers.

AFAIK W = Saloon (T - estate and C - coupe prefixes used as well)

Thanks renault12ts!

Is there any way of working out how MB decided on calling it a W202?

Sorry if I sound a little thick, but I'm new to MB and interesten in getting to know the lingo :)

Paul

Yours is a w202 because its the second in the line of C Classes (Although the first wasn't actually called a C Class...)

T/W201 - 190 (82 - 93)
T/W202 - C Class (93 - 00)
T/W203 - C Class (00 - 07)
T/W204 - C Class (07 - Present)

Your lucky it's the w202 your asking about, a lot of the other classes don't make as much sense!

I thought T202 looked odd, but as it was already mentioned I went with it lol

For accuracy: ;)

S/W201 - 190 (82 - 93)
S/W202 - C Class (93 - 00)
S/W203 - C Class (00 - 07)
S/W204 - C Class (07 - Present)

Just out of interest, but the W126 long wheelbase SEL's are technically V126's, but no-one ever calls them that.....
