What do you want to know?

Hi

What is the situation with the new vehicle tax rate?

I ordered a car last year and due to unavailability of the leather dashboard my car which was supposed ro be delivered in Feb/Mar is now delayed to May/June.

I have managed to negotiate a further £1,700 discount to the price I was quoted in November. This is to match discounts currently available but it looks like the increased VED rate will wipe of this further reduction.

The list price is under £40,000 but options take it up to £44,000. The price after discount is £38,000. Is there any way to avoid paying the increased rate? £450/yr for 4 years for a 2L petrol is excessive.

Hence why I think we should scrap the silly 15-20% discount culture and just price the cars at the right level to start with.

Hey JBD, I've got my order number from Lex, is there anyway I can check VIN and build dates etc using this? Thanks for your help as always.

Won't happen for the following reasons:
1) It's a "premium" product/brand. Reducing list price devalues this in the eyes of many. People might then think MB brand is inferior to Audi or BMW. Shock horror!
2) There are enough people who rock up to their nearest dealer and are prepared to pay list price.

If the original estimated delivery date of your ordered car was before the end of this month, MBUK will pay the difference. An email came round a couple of weeks ago about it. Only if your car was originally arriving in time though.

JBD,

Has the recall for the starter moter fuse thing begun in earnest ? I've late 2016 GLC 250d and haven't had any contact. I spoke to my dealer about another issue and in passing mentioned this, and he said he'd already checked my Reg and no recall was outstanding.

BenzBoost - Mercedes introduces a new 3.5 liter M276 turbo variant with the same horsepower and torque - M276 DELA 35 V6, 333 horsepower 354 lb-ft of torque
Only difference is the larger engine has less turbo boost- hence the same power. I expect is to do with different taxation, emission regulations in certain markets. It may also depend on fuel in certain countries. In this respect it might be folks have to look at other RHD markets shared with the UK.

GLC won't have it until facelift in 2019

So yesterday I finally had the opportunity to drive our new E63 S

It's unbelievably fast, it really took me by surprise and I'm pretty used to driving our AMG's

i seriously have a thing for the AMG cars atm! Such a beautiful car :)

Morning JBD, quick general question for you.

Have you noticed a change in sales at all with the new VED brackets?

I would assume that with most cars being over the £40k bracket, most people that were looking for a sensible daily driver like my C250d are now looking elsewhere, i.e. a sub £40k car so they don't have to pay the £40k premium?

It takes the VED on my car from £20/£30 (whatever it is I can't remember), to £450!

Have you found people are willing to pay that for a C250d?

Edit....Actually, I think my car would come in just shy of the £40k?

We noticed a drop off in April, but that was expected. Honestly, I've only come across two cars that I've been selling that have just been on the border of the £450 bracket and we were just clever with the options. Anyone buying 45k and above doesn't seem to care

JDB. I have a e class estate on order and it's pretty fully spec'd up but it seems that I can't have ventilated and massage seats on it? Any thoughts?

Oh and can I get a spare wheel for the eclass estate rather than the dreaded tin can of inflation juice. Even though it's go run flats I'd prefer to have a spare.

Cheers

This £40k thing is list price, isn't it, not what you actually pay for the car?
Looking at c350e and that hovers around £40k list price (even if £10k deposit contributions are available)
