Hi all,

Just noticed that this pipe was split on my W212 OM642 engine. Yesterday I cut the rubber pipe as it has some slack, then pushed it in again, and today I can see that it's split again.

What is it, is it important, and how easy is it to replace?

I've currently taped it up with some electrical tape.

Cheers,

Ed

The big pipe is coming out of the vac pump, can you follow the small pipe to where it goes? That could be the reason for your engine light.

It heads to somewhere under the vacuum pump, I couldn't figure out where, so that's why I thought I'd ask. Maybe if/when the weather improves I can look with a flashlight!

Just cur off the end level ,,and gently pull the rubber pipe up a little you might have enough to replace it on to the nipple .

Thanks! But I did already try that, and it split again. It was a really really tight fit. Maybe I’ll try it again with a bit of lube... but I’m curious as to what it’s for!

Bumping this. Anyone able to help me with exactly what this hose is, and what would be the symptoms of a leak here?

Thanks to @mbmb123, the diagram is the same for the E-Class: VACUUM SYSTEM MERCEDES E-KLASSE [Car] [CHASSIS] (EUROPA)

But I'm not really sure what it means, or how easy it is to swap out. I'll be googling 'water pump switch over valve' now.

I wrapped mine in silicon wrap when I created this thread and had forgotten all about it. The silicone wrap seems fine but I'm just wondering if there could be a small vacuum leak there, and what the consequences of that would be.

Thanks!

I should imagine one of the principle things that uses this vacuum will be the brake servo. You really don't want to be without this so I would bite the bullet and get a new hose asap.
