What does your local main dealer charge for a diagnostic?

A minimum of £100 at my local dealer

It all depends on what is wrong with the car to how much they charge. If it takes 5 hours to diagnose that is 5x their hourly rate of £136

I charge £20 to plug in.

Agreed- £66 from MB of Loughborough. My indy however, if its just a diagnostics to see what the problem is with no stripping down of any hardware does it for free! Now THATS what you call good service

I'm sure it's usually an hour's worth which is about 100 odd

Last time I asked them to check the gearbox and setting's they did it for free though while it was in for a service. Maybe that's why.

Sorry, I'm not in Cardiff anymore, so local Indy is about 200 miles away from you.

I saw someone recommending a Cardiff Indy on here the other day though.

What context are you asking the question ?

Do you have an unknown problem with the car that you want fixed, and you want an estimate of cost to fix ?

OR

Do you want a diagnostic analysis done out of curiosity to see if you car has any fault codes ?

If I was the technician you approached, then for first question above, there would be nil charge, as it is the tool of the technician to be able to do his job, just as a spanner is - you would not expect him to charge you for the use of his spanner would you.

If the second question however, I would charge you, as the diagnostic is the sole purpose of you wanting my time, and time has to be paid for.

Just bought a SLS took it to MB Lincoln to have the gearbox software updated, charged me £25+ vat found a couple of other updates did those and downloaded all my phone contacts.
Pretty good I thought.

Hi, I was in Agnews of Belfast about two / three weeks ago to get new batteries, and a new alarm siren fitted. The labour, I believe, was charged at £90 plus VAT an hour.

It is hard to tell from the Mercedes receipt, as the labour isn't listed separately. You have to try to work it out by subtracting the cost of the parts from the total. But even then you don't get the true hourly charge.

I am fairly sure that my " Personal service manageress" told me on the phone that it was £90 per hour.
