What fog lights?

Hi,

Having just installed new xenons on my C55 (old one was flickering), and also upgraded my side lights to led's, my fog lights are now looking by comparison decidedly yellowish and 70's. I tried to remove one yesterday by opening up the wheel arch inspection hatch cover, but there was a tank of some type in the way (not the military type I hasten to add), hence I was only able to get my hand in rather than see anything and didn't have enough time to investigate further.

My question, is what type of bulls are the fogs? I've seen some suggestion that they might be HB4 9006's, which are sort of L shaped, but it didn't seem (from feel only) to be those. Now could I work out how to get the bulb out....could just feel a rubber cover which didn't seem to pull off or twist.

Thanks.

Fog lights should really be yellowy to aid driving in fog.

I have some spare (brand new) Osram Night breaker Plus HB4 bulbs for a small PayPal donation if you want them.

Yes, but planning to change to yellow LED's, much nicer look.

I don't know if this helps or not (probably not), but with the 211 the user manual says the fogs are H1. (It also says that the headlamps are H7.)

What it doesn't say is that for cars with factory xenon headlamps (which are D2R I think, certainly not H7), the fogs are HB4s.

Guess who has a spare set of H1s because they don't fit!

The fogs on my dear departed 211 were H11's

You really want to get them out before ordering/buying replacements. There was/is a difference in bulb type/number with these fog lights that seems not to relate to year or anything else. There are threads on this from people who bought the bulbs in the handbook or direct from Mercedes only to find that they had the wrong ones.

The tank is your washer bottle. You can get the bulb out by removing the undertray section of the wheel arch (not the entire undertray) you can then get enough flex between the bumper and the light to get the bulb out ob the N/S the O/S is a easier as there are no obstructions.

As an aside, fog lamps are not bright white for a reason. The more yellow light cuts through fog better, with less back reflection.
