What happened to watch sizes.

Another Lefty who wears it on the right wrist, the correct wrist. Who wants the strap/bracelet dragging on everything when you are trying to write or do manual labour?

I have a Panerai and the crown protector does tend to dig in a bit, hence wearing it the wrong way round stops this and the same with my other chrono watch it also keeps the buttons from getting caught when putting on jackets etc. Most Panerai's are available to order left handed but mine was a numbered edition and only came right handed, I did try to wear it on the right but didn't like it that way.

Pic of the latest purchase as we are on the subject :
Lovely watch. I have a Planet ocean, some 12 years old now. My mate has a Tag Monaco and loves it but says its uncomfortable to wear as the winder digs into his wrist. Maybe worth checking out.

Once the dust settles I am going for a Tag Monaco next as it seems to be a break from the norm , style wise.

Maybe worth checking out.

It was the calibre 11 I was thinking about , this has the winder on the opposite side from the buttons so it should be fine but I will make it a consideration prior to purchase.

I love big watches, my daily is a Garmin Fenix 5x with an additional bezel. 51mm by 20mm

Stand alone mapping, health and phone notifications it's a total work horse and it's resulted in my equally large Paneri, UBoat and multiple TW Steels being left in my safe / wardrobe at home as a result. I am 6 foot one with, let's say rugby back row build so it's proportional in size.

That's not a watch, it's an ice hockey puck !! :eek::p

Just my humble opinion.

I have several "Premium" mechanical (not battery powered) watches that I wear on rotation.
I don't wear them to show off as most people don't notice the watch or don't recognise it as something expensive.
I wear them because I like them as pieces of precision engineering. OK, I do wear them to show off occasionally.
It doesn't occur to me take my watch off so I do end up washing the car or gardening or doing DIY with a watch on.
I do wear my watch on my left hand but I take it off to wind or adjust it so it wouldn't matter which side the winder was on.
Larger watches is a trend but apparently as the Chinese are now major buyers and the larger sizes don't suit the average Chinese wrist (Not my words) sizes have stabilised and many brands offer watches in different sizes.

The right watch will go up in value.
The Rolex Daytona shown in an earlier post will cost you less than £10k new if you can find one but over £20k if you want one without waiting.
Apparently some Rolex dealers have waiting lists and deposits that cover the next 10 years. No I am not on a waiting list and I haven't got one.
They can't request what Rolex send them, they get what they are given and they have too sell them at list price if they want to remain as a dealer.
The problem with not buying from a dealer is the risk of ending up with a fake.

I have seen fake watches in China and some of them are very good.
Fakes are not a problem for the premium brands because, apparently, two types of people buy fakes, the kind that will never buy a genuine one and the kind that won't be happy with a fake and will buy a real one anyway.
I know one person who wears a fake during the week and a the real one at the weekend and somebody else who has about 40 fakes eventhough he could afford real ones if he wanted.

Whatever floats your boat and doesn't scare the horses.

The problem with fakes is when they are successfully sold as originals.

As you say some of the fakes are very good. Stick a cheap 21600bph automatic movement in a half decent replica case and it will fool a lot of people - and chances are it will be a half decent watch.

I have small wrists and never liked the large watch tend as they look ridiculous on so many people.

If I wear a watch it's typically an old Longines that is 30 x 10mm. Very simple and understated.

I am not really a watch guy but when I used to buy Octane car magazine some issues would have a watch 'supplement' attached and each month there was a page dedicated to high end watches I always read through them, and always when stuck in a major airport I gravitate towards the watch dealer for a mooch around . I very much appreciate the engineering that takes place to build them.
One watch intrigues me. Miestersinger , particularly the Pangaea Day Date, just the fact that it only has one hand and is technically telling the wrong time most of the time has an odd appeal to me. Bonkers in a time when sport etc is measured in milliseconds.
I had a pretty close look at them but decided as I never wear a watch it would be wasted on me.

I keep looking at the Omega Dark Side of the Moon Double Black but my wife will kill me if another box arrives with a timepiece in it. She thinks that three is plenty but I don’t :p

The people that buy fake watches are usually the same bunch that buy fake shirts, shoes, sunnies, handbags etc!

Just don't tell her , she will never know. I had my first outing last night with latest watch and the wife did ask if it was a new one ,

"no it was the one I bought last year when you were with me , don't you remember ?" which diffused the situation quickly.

I did ask her if that was a new handbag she was taking out and you can guess the reply -

"no it was the one I bought last year when you were with me , don't you remember ?"

I didn`t mention that she had left part of the packaging in her "new" bag , best let sleeping dog lie.

My wife of 42 years standard reply is - "I have had this for ages. I showed it to you when I bought it. You never pay attention".

42 years and she still thinks she is fooling me.

No such bravado in my house, no secret purchasing here. I did ask her once if we could have a join account, Never! my money would last longer if i burnt it! was her instant reply.

I like a big watch, I am big and it doesnt look huge.
48mm breitlng bentley for best
And a black on black unreadable two steel monster for casual.
G shock for rough work
Victorinox for work

I mostly wear a Tag Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 5 that I've had since 2012. I think the case is 41mm. Have always liked that style of watch.

I have a citizen eco drive blue angels watch, and it’s twice the size of my old breitling colt.

They do not take Deposits on watches , I am on a list & offered to pay upfront or a deposit & they would not entertain it...unless Goldsmiths have a different policy...

I'm also a big bloke and have massive wrists but really do not like the super chunky watches we see around these days.

My current daily wear is a Rolex submariner two tone purchased in 1998, work, sleep, shower, swim etc. Essentially I never took it off except for services (3 since new) for 20 years and it never missed a beat and was still keeping really good time before it's most recent service 2 years ago after I retired. The service cost £800 but it was fairly beaten up (needed a new crystal, crown and some other bits) however, it now looks like a brand new watch. I now rarely wear a watch (don't really need to know the time).

Sadly, Rolex seems to have become as common as a MB. If I was younger and still into watches, I'd replace the submariner with something a little less common.

The only other watch that I still own is a Tissot T Touch - bought in Dubai in 2004. 2 years ago I replaced the battery and it still did not work. Sent it in for repair, they said £150-00 to repair it or I could have a new one for £150-00 (the retail for about £800-00). Took a new one - pretty good deal for a broken 14year old watch.

I've always liked watches and have owned dozens from really cheap to really expensive but never been a collector so I either gave my 'old' watch to my son or traded up.
