What is everyone having for dinner tonight?

Hot dogs for tea boys.
Nice. Very nice. Frankfurters or butchers style?

PS With your forum name, I hope that they at least this
[<——————————————————->] big!

Night off for me tonight, wife doing one of her standards, cottage pie with a crust of grilled cheddar on the top of the potato. Probably back in the saddle tomorrow - I did Tues, Wed and Thursday, then will have some small duck breasts to pan fry for her Sunday.

Tesco quick cook steaks last night, not tried them before and will not get them again, suspect they're rump and not tender. Saving grace was a bottle of Rioja that was my monthly freebie from Naked Wines (been buying from them for 11 years!!) RRP >£15 IIRC, they wanted to give me a magnum of something but I swopped for 2 single bottles. It was delightful, and we still have the second for another night. OK, to get the freebie you have to order 12 (mixed) bottles from them, so I only do that every 2-3 months and add 13-14 bottles as their standard shipping boxes are 6, 12, 15 or 18 bottle sizes. Not difficult to add, but annoyed that a while back they moved their minimum price point to £7.99/bottle, I don't go above 9.99 as we do not have educated palates for the more expensive stuff, but we've found wines from SA, argentina, Spain, Portugal and France that we like so choosing 13-14 is not a problem! I also like that every month they take £30 from my CC and it accumulates, so if it's 3 months since last order there's already £90 in my account so the paymant for the order (carefully chosen so I get free delivery) is at most £20.

They also occasionally do special offers. We have one coming shortly where a number of well respected winemakers were overstocked so the wines have been re-labelled "hidden maker" and compared to normal Naked Angel price were almost 1/2 price - you could have a mixed case of 6/4/2 red/white/rose, an all red or all white or mixed white/rose case, I'm getting the mixed case, all were £99 for 12 bottles delivered (they use Yodel).

Ditto. First takeaway of any kind for over 3 months. Proper looking forward to it. 🥳
How was it Ant, and what did you have?

I had papadums, chicken jalfrezi, pilau rice, and a roomali roti.

My taste buds are scorched, it’s the hottest jalfrezi I have ever had by some margin. In fact it was the hottest curry I have ever had. Halve the heat and it would be one of the best curries I’ve ever had.

Reminiscent of when I moved to Karachi in 1974, got a house and a cook who made his first curry and blew my "socks" off it was so hot. He then turned the heat down and over the next months for both me and my new wife in March 1975 gradually built the heat back up until we could comfortably eat hot stuff (he was a very good cook), but those days are long gone so these days it's mild to medium (try Punjaban curry sauces, they're excellent but normally have to buy online, occasionally at the shop that sells vitamins etc, can't remember the name but well known).

It was going so well until you mentioned Yodel :(

Did you ever try mixing a few panko breadcrumbs in with the cheese? Extra crispy cheesy topping makes anything eat great!

I've been happy with Yodel for quite a while now, their tracking is real time, the drivers are helpful especially as I cannot lift a 15 bottle box of wine - both they and Evri have improved and are as good as DPD these days, it's only Amazon Prime that give you a 2-3 hour delivery window but not live driver tracking!

When I can get them I get panko breadcrumbs, but on the whole we make our own from bread (brown or white, matters not) that is about to go off by putting it into the food processor and blitzing it really small, then into the oven on a wide tray at 120C for about 30 mins, stir and repeat once. Then when I turn it onto the board for use I run the rolling pin over it to get rid of any lumps and make the crumbs small - works well when I do pink veal or chicken escalopes! Also the crumbs keep well in sealed plastic container in fridge!

Chinese for us tonight Rob. From our favourite place.

I enjoyed a starter (or 4 🙄) and the girls shared a meal. Having not had one for so long we REALLY enjoyed it. Maybe that’s the key.

Yours sounds marvellous Rob. Just perfect Happy Friday food. 🥳
